August Hatch-A-Long

They shouldn't smell funky unless they're growing bacteria.

My broody is all done hatching her eggs, 6/6! They look to be 2 blues, 2 blacks and 2 splash- what are the odds!?!? Silkie babies are so cute it should be a crime

That little black in the back just cracks me up, it has a huge vault

I've had a black rooster over blue and splash hens for a long time (which means no splash chicks), so these were an awesome surprise! This means either my Sizzle rooster is blue instead of black or my blue cockerel has finally started breeding (I'm secretly hoping for splash Sizzles

). And, my incubator eggs have started rocking, they're due the day after tomorrow. YAY!
Great job momma!! Very cute chicks!!

Should I space the 10 eggs out amongst the two egg cartons or have them all together side by side in one
Some research I read that if the eggs are touching each other, the vibration of hatching encourages the others.

Just got all the chicks out of the hatcher in time to move these last 2 eggs in. The first pip happened about 6 hours later.

^ X marks the spot!

And thanks for all the compliments, so in love with my new chicks! I can't wait for more!

As for the eggs touching, if they were under a hen they'd be touching each other. I figure if it works for them, its no big deal if they touch inside the incubator (plus it allows me to cram even MORE eggs in there  ).

Best of luck to everyone!

Still no chirping movement or anything :( its day 21 I raise my humidity a little since I was deciding to wait till the first pip to do so but I decided maybe it would help. :(

Come on little guys I am waiting!

Day 18...temp was perfect 4 hours ago, just checked on it and it was 106! I would increasing the humidity effect the stable temps? I've been fine the whole incubation once I got it stabilized....will my chicks still live?

If your temp was a little low... depending on which thermometer was right... they may just take a little longer! Hang in there!!

I had a 106 temp spike once... found it when I woke up so I had no idea how long it had been that high... eggs were fine...

In my hatcher, humidity definitely affects temp and makes it go UP!!! Still trying to figure it out... my incubator is bigger and doesn't seem to have the same problem... good to have vents open during lockdown, that may help keep temp down.

Yeah I have noticed that when I add water to increase humidity the temp goes down first then WAY up! I have a homemade one, I have holes on top I use to add water when needed without openeing the lid and then venting holes along the sides.
