Loi've never tried to take pics of it. I'll get my daughter to help. Our "candler" is just an led flashlifht, a dark room, and my hand.

. Works well enough for my unscientific process. I just can't see in the darkest shelld eggs so they just ride along until hatch day.
Wakey wakey! Candle day! Now we must wait until dark.

Woke up a couple of times but stayed away from the eggs. Got up about 1pm, went out to mail a package and went and collected the eggs when we got back. While I was dating the eggs I kept hearing a peeping but I have 2 plastic totes on the table with chicks in them so kept thinking I was hearing them. Got up to leave the room and I always look in the incubator when I am leaving. Like someone else said, I don't know what I expect to see, dancing eggs? LOL But I got a surprise, there was a little chickie in there. Already dry and everything. I picked it up and coo-ed at it then put it back. Got on here and was telling everyone about the early hatch. Someone reminded me that I could give it a stuffed animal to keep it company until more eggs hatch but I'm worried that there won't be anymore hatch until the due date. I checked the egg that I removed from the nest with this one but didn't hear any peeping. I have a tiny Silkie but when I put them together this new one was still half the size of the silkie. The Silkie is the tiniest chick I have right now and he is noticeably smaller than anyone else in the tote. Including the D'Uccle chick and it is small.

I just finished candling my eggs!!! I have 29 out of 34! 5 were duds, no development at all in 4 of them and the other one barely had any murk to it.

ALL OF THE OTHERS HAD MOVEMENT!!! I have never had so many eggs with so much movement at one time! Well, that I could see. LOL

I have12 silkie eggs and 16 of my mixed breeds eggs. I had a surprise baby hatch today and he's doing ok right now. He didn't like it that I turned all the lights out so I could candle the eggs. He hollered and screamed. LOL

I left out some details. LOL They are 15 days in the incubator and are due for hatching on 7/31

FINALLY got to candle:celebrate   3 out of 5 eggs are good so far, can see veins growing!!!! One is pretty clear:(  and one has a red streak(not all the way around the eggs it is small) so not sure about this one :/   So excited!!!!:weee
Yippee!!! 3 out of 5 on shipped eggs is a good #, isn't it usually around 50%? Plus, you never know, the egg with the red streak may end up fine...what a great candle day! This was your 7 day candle, right?

:weee :celebrate :ya

That's so cool you got a surprise early! Do you know what kind it is? It is scary mixing different sized chicks, my sister did it with disastrous results :(.

Hi...I got my second bunch today and have them resting!!  I was wondering your opinion about putting them rt in the bator since I'm not running the turner... The only reason is the seller shipped them in a small box and when I put them in the tray to sit they were warm??  I'm just wondering if it would hurt to just go ahead and put them in incubator and just sit.  This seller wasn't very good, only gave me one extra and it was cracked :tongue    The first seller sent 5 extra with one cracked!
did you decide if you'll put your 2nd batch in the bator right away, or let them rest 1st? I'm sorry, i wish i knew some good advice to give you but i am brand new to all of this...
