Looking at all the babies being born makes me want to hatch some eggs now

Can anyone tell me how long to give the hens and rooster before I should be safe to get fertile eggs please?

My early batch is hatched. Got 2 and 1/2. I am just not sure #3 is going to keep going. I had to help and it isn't acting right so I give it until morning to see how it progresses. Still have 35 in lockdown due Friday.

here is a pic of the first one out.

I don't know the exact answer to your question. However, the hen that just hatched my chicks was not kept with any roosters for a month. I know that her eggs weren't fertile. She got out briefly and her eggs started hatching exactly 3 weeks later.. So your eggs could be fertile pretty shortly after your rooster starts mating with them. Give it a day or so and then crack an egg open and take a look.

LOL..isn't that the way it seems to go???? I will probably have 3 more hatch from this batch for a total of 4 and boy do I hope at LEAST one is a girl...we are not allowed to have roosters  :(  do you know if the whole feather sexing thing works for cochins?

Don't think you can do it that way with cochins. Sorry.
