August Hatch-A-Long

Hi everybody,

I too am going the Dry Hatch route and have a question to throw out to you regarding Brinsea's methodology in regards to a daily 1-2 hour cool down method...
It makes sense to me and I am wondering if anyone else has tried this with any success? (or) At least thought about it?
BTW: This is my first effort to incubate anything! I have nine English Orps in a Hovabator 1602N...I did it bass ackwards...I bought it a decent price and then did the research!
I would sincerely appreciate any feedback as I can't remember fretting over anything quite this much, never thought I could give myself apoplexy over eggs

.... Those two pretty much some it up for me...

Thanks in advance.

Oh, I thought you had ACV in the galvanized too. IDK...
Hope they get over it and take their meds like good chickens...

Very sad...my broody Peeps baby died :hit   I have no idea what happened. Last night, mom and baby were great...baby was eating and drinking. The only thing I did not see was baby poop but since my broody was caring for her I wasn't really looking. Now my hen is soooooo lost. I cleared the nest and broody area completely although I od think she realized baby died because she went outside to dust and hasn't done that since the day before baby hatched. Saddest day ever and watching my girl is just breaking my heart!
.

Aw man, Im sad to hear that about the little fuzzy. :(

I haven't done a cool down daily with my incubator, but my broody got off her eggs every other day or so and let them cool for about half an hour. She had a 100% hatch... better than my hatch rate ; )

Well, today I candled the Cream Brabanter eggs that have been in the incubator for 6 days now... all 12 of them are clear

.... **** shipped eggs! While I was doing it, I went ahead and looked at the Buckeye eggs again and most of them are doing well, but a couple of them may have quit.

So sorry to hear that! I remember they were shipped, but in pretty good shape, right? Are you thinking they are all infertile? If they weren't infertile there would be something in some of them. Did the first ones you got develop at all? I'm hoping against hope they are just really slow to show development, which can happen in shipped eggs, but in all 12?

Yes, shipped eggs. Yes, most in good shape. Actually I am not sure what to think, the Buckeye eggs in the same incubator are doing well. I will probably let them go a few more days then if I still don't see any development will open a few to see if they were fertile. The shells are white, so easy to see through. The first batch of eggs were all scrambled in the shells so none developed.
