August Hatch-A-Long

Hoping your pipped baby is still doing good and maybe decides to come out and play today!!

My baby is hatched and peeping loudly... she is a very strong chick! Last night she was still in her egg and I felt bad about having her in the hatcher all alone so I felt like I would put one other egg in with her.... the one that was most developed and when I took it out of the incubator I realized it had pipped! So they are a good pair to hatch together. They were both too big in their shells to hatch and that is with 35% humidity!!??? Maybe these tiny chicks need it very dry! I mean, how much humidity can a tiny little hen maintain? I have no idea what is going on but they are doing well with me helping them so I am very thankful for that.

I am going to keep this one in the bator till the other hatches... he'll probably be ready this afternoon or evening : )

I am sad to report that my little chick lost his struggle for life around noon today. He was very alert and active at the 4:30 AM check, which gave me some hope. But when I looked in on him later he was lethargic and just went down from there.

So sorry you lost your little chick...

I'm on day 13. Hatch day is the 30th and I'm so excited I can't wait! I am going to candle tomorrow. I had done it early and was going to wait until tomorrow to candle but I had a rotten egg in the midst so I had to candle to find the stinky bugger. My barnevelders are developing nicely! I have one that has a wonky air cell so I'm not sure about that one but I can't wait to see who hatches! I have some other eggs in there with them from my mom and dad. They have RIR and Buff Orphington and a few Welsummers.... May have some full bloods and may have a mixture of any of those lol. I love seeing everyone's fuzzy butts hatching. I can't wait for my turn!

You are getting close!! Glad everyone is coming along!!

I have 6 eggs hatching under my broody on the 25th, 15 in the incubator 27th and 15 more bator eggs due 9/4! This waiting is the worst, I mean, hurry up already! :barnie

:p
All the new chicks are too cute!

Yay!!! So happy for you and the little chick!! Glad it has a friend! Well my bator is staying at 25% humidity...lol I so almost but water in it but I am doing just like this one forum said and only added one teaspoon to start and as long as it doesn't go any lower I'm not going to add any. I will see how they are on day 7. Also am going to plug in turner tomorrow on day 2, I think they will be good.

Thank you to you and the others that sent their regards. I am happy to hear the news about your new hatches, CONGRATS ! It has been a rough afternoon, I had no clue how attached I was to that little guy. My first chick that hatched is doing great, but it looks like he is going to be a loner for a bit. I believe the other 8 eggs in the bator died at some point, but will give them a few more days. I am done with shipped eggs though. 120 dollars, 4 1/2 dozen eggs, 4 months invested and all I have to show is 1 adorable little roo. I ordered him 10 little companions from the "need to ship quick" list at Meyer. I couldn't get Buckeyes so I just ordered a mix of breeds. They should be here in the middle of next week. I am looking forward to having some company for my little guy. I put a mirror in the brooder and he loves it, but it just isn't the same.

I am actually trying to get my humidity down to 25%, at 30 to 35% these babies are too big! I have my vents open. I want it that low but it scares me too. I want these little Seramas so badly. I really can't (shouldn't) spend another $60 if it doesn't work out ; ) Must relax and breathe... at least I am getting practice assisting the little guys!
