Augusta Maine Poultry/ Farm Days Swap at Tractor supply 2012

Lets hope for a beautiful sun shine filled day!

This time I just might bring some of my gals with me. It will be my first time attempting to sell or swap whatever the case may be. Any tips?

bring a way to show them off, people don't buy what they can't see. I use a dog crate, some people use exercise pens like for dogs (covered if they might get spooked and fly out- catching runaways is always exciting but not real fun for the owner with so many cars around.)
bring boxes to send them home in- some buyers have them but most do not. signs for prices and what they are. bring food and water dishes to use(feed is optional, water can be gotten in the store). bring only clean, healthy birds.
bring food and drinks for yourself, usually there is only what you can buy in the store and it's sugary snacks.
bring money for buying and making change. bring yourself an extra box because you might see something you need.

and post on this thread what you are bringing. if someone is looking for the one thing you might leave home, it could change your might, and you will have an automatic sale.
warm clothes, it can get pretty cool this time of yr just waiting around and
a chair- standing gets tiring.
and a good sense of humor and a big smile help too.
anybody else have anything to add?

I think you covered it. I also bring a thing of Chlorox Wipes & paper towels. Handling the birds I get messy hands. This helps me keep them clean. You'll also probably want to put hay down in your cages if they're open bottomed - hay is easy to contain the poop and clean up afterwards. You'll need to clean your spot when you leave.

The big ones NOT to skimp on:
- Boxes. If you don't have boxes you could lose sales.
- Change. See above.
- Food/water for yourself and birds
- Warm clothes. Augusta store is notoriously cold and windy.

this weeds out the wimps

here is what I am bringing:
1 paint khaki silkie cockerel
1 khaki frizzled silkie pullet (not a sizzle)
and i will go through my silkie pens this week and pick out other birds that I don't need. I have some young 8+ week old silkies- 1 blue, possible others, NO BLACKS
wink.png

maybe another paint silkie. also have some young hatchlings under the light but only if those are presold- blues in that bunch.(pm me on those)
I am looking for 2-3 more birds for my coop, must be hens/pullets- large fowl, no bantams and heres the big one- must lay eggs that are not brown. white, blue, chocolate brown, avocado, multicolored is fine.
also looking for a black silkie cockerel or roo. needs to be ready to roll in the next month or 2.
i also will have stained glass with me and my carved emu eggs (if it's not too windy).
I still have a few wire cages 2x2x3 and the bigger 30"x48"x 7' long, and 3x5x8' long- need to be picked up here as my car is too small. these are great for chicken tractors or call duck pens. they have hangers so can be hung from the ceiling or placed directly on the floor, no pans (take that back, smaller cages some do have pans) wire spacing is 1x 1/2 on the smaller cages and 1x2 on the larger cages. these are all galvanized after weld, so they do not rust.
