And here is a photographic story of Chicken day..

First the coop being moved outside for the first time..

Second, the new sand Chicken Zen garden (might need a finer and more appropriate rake)

The star of the show - at least to me!

She has a huge personality.

Chookens on their way to their new home..

And here are two of them in their new home - the one I fell in love with has the bright red comb, the other one has a more purple color comb. The one with the purple comb in this picture is the friendliest one so far, and likes to roost on me every time I go and sit in the coop - even without mealworms! So at this stage, the love thing is only on my side, for Red Comb, and Purple Comb is trying very hard to win my love all to herself. She does not have to try very hard, I adore all of them already.

The three English Game hens on their roost. They took to it right away.

I have a great feeling of empathy for my Light Sussex girl at the moment. The other three girls come from the same home and know each other and there seems to be a pecking order established with them already. LS did not want to get up on the roost - it took a push from the other half to get her sitting up there with the others. They are all roosting together now, and it is bedtime.

It was an enormously happy day for me. 24 hours later, the chickens seem to be settling in quite happily. I'm a lot more nervous about everything than they are I expect. Anytime I hear an odd noise from the coop I run out to check on them.

Tomorrow we'll try and get the run finished.

The great Coop and Run mating of 2011 is now complete.

What a heck of a job that was, not made any easier by the windy and horrible conditions here today. Winds of up to 100km/hr, feeling like they were coming straight from the Antarctic!

These first two are before we squared it up and bolted it together -

If you look carefully at this one you can see the connector thingies and it is square now (just a simple hasp latch if I have the terminology right, the same kind most people use on their laying boxes with a padlock thingy) and you can see my newly planted lemon tree in the background over in the garden bed.

And here is Red Comb showing you all her personality.

with Light Sussex in the background looking for mealworms.

They had a great time out there until they decided it was too cold and windy - I agreed so I shut them in the coop a little early tonight..

I am still a bit freaked out by how big this thing actually is now it is out in the garden. It is huge!

Here are a few more pics now I had a little more time to upload them.
