Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

well i have some bad news, i am (or was going to) purchasing 4 Silkies off this lady and shes had the eggs in the bator for a while they were due to hatch on the 3-4th of October but she just happened to have a back out on the 3rd and she was at work so they all got cold and died. She seamed really up set on the phone so well wait another month for the next batch.

Wow sorry about that Luke. she must have had a long black out to have that happen. I have one baby quail out this morning, 1 almost out a few still rocking so all has not been lost with these eggs.

That's sad. I'm sorry to hear that - I would understand her being upset !

Satay - Congrats on the quails ! I have a budgie that laid an egg (only the one so far) and she is Kind of sitting on it.

I find her out and about 2 - 3 times a day - I hope she does the right thing and hatches it !

OH and I have a question about Silkies.

I am told they make good 'cuddle' chickens but how much work are they ? Do I need to wash them often or anything

they need different from other 'normal' layers in the backyard??

My local store is getting some in and I thought my soon to be 5yo might like a friendly cuddly friend since the older girls don't like it so much.

Cheers

My one and only quail out so far is in the brooder with a bantie baby. Gosh quail make 3 day old banties look huge lol. I sure hope some more hatch as his little guy is gunna be mighty lonely if not. The one i thought was almost out was in fact the shell from the first one hatch but he had moved it to the other side of the bator so i got a little confused.
Sam I know friends that have had silkies but I have not. They don't seem any more work than a normal chicken.
Yes Ducky some pictures of your babies please if you have any. I love looking at pictures of your animals.

it is looking like my poor little quail is gunna be an only one. 24hours since he hatced and nothing. May have to seek out some day olds for him if nothing hatches tomorrow.

Well better news this morning. Last night as i went to bed 1 new little quail. 28 hours after the first one hatched and this morning there are 2 more. So 4 quails all up. Least the little guy wont be lonely now.
