Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I'm doomed! I'll be surrounded by men hahaha joking I love them just the same! And either way they still have homes to go to.

There are some clear running girls in the mix so not all boys, the Plymouths are so hard to sex! They're 8 weeks old now, I'm more attached than i should be though

i give them all a little kiss goodnight each day one by one (very light kiss! I see how grubby these little monsters can be!)

Hey guys! Missed you all! Been so beyond busy it's not funny!

How's everyone been? Things have been pretty settled my way.. 34 eggs in the bator and due to hatch this time next week and all 10 of my chicks are so healthy and happy and even a little tame!.. They all have a new home too! Next weekend they're off to a family with 5 kids and someone I work with so I can still get updates ;)

Here's a question though.. What sex do you all think these three are..

Chicky 1

Chicky 2

Chicky 3

!!!
Well, I am all good. Had a few chicks just hatch yesterday which is always fun.
34 eggs!!! But you live in the city, what do you do with all the chicks!!?!?!
Yes as everyone has said, all boys!

Anyone else tried corn for their chicks??

My lot shove their adult mums out of the way to get to my handful of this golden joy.lol!!!
They LOVE it!!
If you want to get friendly chicks, then corn is the answer!!!

( Don't feed to much though, especially in Summer. It's fatty )

Be mindful that corn is also a ' heating ' food. I only feed it in the winter. Show people will tell you not to feed it at all , apparently it lightens the eye colour. Occasionally in summer I give the chicks corn on the cob, it entertains them for hours.

All of mine have been getting into my corn patch :( Luckily our heat wave has damaged the crop so they can go for it. Someone told me it's different if it's dried corn as apposed to moist?
I thought corn was corn lol

Some of what you hear is just urban myth, but there are various studies around that recommend feeding corn and sunflower seed in small amounts. There are pics on this site somewhere of a necropsy on chickens fed corn highlighting the fatty deposits around the vital organs. I figure everything in moderation. When they mark the corn cobs down at woollies , my chooks get a treat. Some people around here feed only wheat because that's what some old ' cow cocky ' told them. Mine turn their nose up to wheat and lupins.

Mine do too, they hate wheat. (on it's own anyway) Mine will only eat a mix that I get made up for them. Has little bit of cracked corn, pellets, sorghum, wheat and some oats with Mollases mixed in :) They go crazy over it :) Costs me about $30 for 20kg. At least none of it is left over for scavengers to eat :)
Oh nearly forgot sunflower seeds as well :)

Isn't it funny how our chooks are all different in their tastes. Mine wont touch oates. If I add them to their own mix they just ignore it and it's left all over the place.
