This little one likes disobeying mum, not going under her wing and rides on her back half the day. I love watching them

Too Cute :)

Megan my cousin is a vet but poultry is not her thing. You did what you could with the best advice you could find nothing wrong with that. I have found with poultry over the years its more helpful to get advice from people who have had them and bred them over the years as they have more hands on experience than most vets. I can offer advice on chickens but ask me about cows of horses I have no idea lol.

Happy Birthday!

I ended up using frontline spray on my girls...one squirt each on the back of the neck between the feathers. It seems to have worked...I can now collect eggs and clean their house without being covered in mites by the time I'm back in the house. I washed everything in tea tree oil and the family did a wash with a pyrethrum based lice shampoo, but even then I still found them on me! The thing that got rid of the mites biting me was a thick slather of Moo Goo on the areas they were biting. It's an Australian product for dermatitis and other skin conditions and you can get it from the Chemist. It seems petty benign, so it could be ok to put on the chickens' legs as well.
As for egg withholding...I didn't bother, and we are all still standing. I figure that our environment in the city is probably way more toxic than a spray of skin borne pesticide. I think you'd have to withhold if you were selling the eggs, though.
