Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Is that 100% or do some offspring just have peas and some just have single?

Yep some have peas, some have single, some have a rose comb. This is my girl I kept who has a rose comb, Zandy.

Her mum Mandy is Barnevelder x ara, not sure of her Dad, could be Marans/ara, Marans or Ara. She was from a free ranging mix but definitely from Mandy's egg. She lays a blue/green color egg. I just got some video of Inigo displaying to his new girl, I'll try to upload it later :)

I'll be interested to see what colour your wellie lays ben. I only have 2 left of mine now and I was not pleased at all with the egg colour they laid. Never did get one much darker than an Australorp egg. Could you post a pic of your bv egg colour if you have time. I would be interested to see how dark they are.

We have a few that we are keen to see. One is our BV x Ara that we hope gives something close to an olive. Could be a big ask being first generation though. SOme of the Wellie eggs were very light, some of them were quite dark. The lady we got them from said they had been breeding for bird conformity, not egg colour.

Olive about a week ago.

Our current Welsummer, not yet laying.

Some of our last hatch, hard to get nice egg photo's, they never look the same as real life lol

As sample of our eggs a few months ago. All are bigger now but the Barnevelder's have got a bit lighter. The first couple of months were small but much darker

These are the eggs we hatched last hatch. Again, they looked darker IRL than this pic, so from hat stock, I would be happy to get eggs as dark as Lucas's pic.

This is the variety we got of Welsummer stock last hatch. Our girl above came from one of these, but I have no idea which one. We kept the one closest to what I thought was the best looking.

Our Barnevelder's first egg.

From our crosses, some singles and some peas, some had funky pea's, if you squinted it could have been a rose comb lol.

Nice eggs Ben.

Get some hatching eggs off Chookpatch then you will be really happy

!!!

Also, don't get to excited with Marans first eggs, as you said with your Wellies after a few weeks they start to lighten and that is their real egg colour.
Also after a moult the eggs will be much darker again

I am so keen to see what my White Leghorn X Marans lay. It would be great if the dark egg gene easily went over the white and improved it.lol.

Thanks Ben :)

Olive is very cute Ben, first generation is usually a nice light olive but it depends on what you are crossing with. I only ever had one partridge welsummer lay a decent shade of brown, this is one of my silver duckwing welsummers eggs v's some Marans eggs

If things were different, and I knew better last hatch I would have seen what we could work out with Chook's eggs. I think ours were already in the incubator when I read she had consistent olive eggers. Maybe another time I will find better stock to choose from.

Saying that, I am aiming to just have a nice variety of shades and colours when we come back from the coop. Basically, if we can come back to the house with something anywhere near chookpatches avatar we would be over the moon! We are not going for a standard or showing or anything so it's not important, just a preference.
