Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I think going by her track record I would be far more worried about one being carried off by your daughter lol

Yes! Or her leaving the gate open & the cats getting in. Fortunately she's off to school tomorrow & I'll be keeping a sharp eye on her the rest of the time. : )
Any news? Are you going to candle tonight? I'm not sure I'd be able to stop myself, but then again, from what I understand just about the whole egg is dark & I'd leave them under my hen anyway for a couple more days. How many are under Penny?

There are six under her but I think only five are okay going by the candle on day 17.

I'm just going to wait. I'm happy to admit I'm out of my depth so even if I candled I really wouldn't be any the wiser because I don't think I'd be able to recognise an internal pip anyway and I don't know enough to help even if I did :). I was just reading a good page on hatching and as late as day 25 isn't unheard of so gonna cross fingers and cling to hope till then. Hopefully when penny goes for her morning wander when I open up I'll find all the worrying was for nothing :)

Lol Fancy. The chicks have had their last check & only 2 were visible because it had cooled & most were under mum. There is no way I am going out into the dark & possibly meet a snake on the way to the run. Besides, I've been up since 4am so I think I'll sleep pretty well tonight. Last pic for today. I've seen six in total so feel pretty lucky. I also managed to get a couple of empty egg shells out & Snowy appears to have pooped in the nest at some point. I also found out what I could hear her pecking - ants. I was a bit suspicious that she had been eating her eggs seeing as she hasn't been off the nest since Thursday morning. Hopefully she will get OFF the nest tomorrow & I can change the hay & wipe it out a bit to deter them. She scarfed down some watermelon on the nest & ate some more hay so I don't have to worry I'm going to find an expired hen lying on the nest anymore, my biggest fear these last few days. I hope they all have a safe night. : )
Gratz :love

Well still nothing. We clicked over to day 23 at around 9pm last night so I was really hoping there would be something, anything, happening this morning.

Getting harder and harder not to admit defeat :-(

I have broodies coming out my ears now too - Bubbles who is still steadfast in her sitting, but now I have Nugget the Araucana and Betty the Blue Orpington from my last hatch wanting to sit now too.
I do plan on hatching more eggs this season, but only have space for one broody to hatch at a time now, as last time I hatched, they were in dog crates and I don't want to do that again.

JWB Australia groupings of 'those birds' are different. You have rumpless araucana's, easter eggers (cross breeds) & ameraucana's with tails from what I understand. We have no rumpless araucana's in this country & I no longer get confused because I asked about it at a local poultry show & one woman looked like she was going to have me arrested & check my home for signs of illegal birds!

Very scary, but I was so sure that there were araucana's here. We don't have easter eggers or ameraucana's, rather we have araucana's (which look pretty much like ameraucana's to me) and standards for them & the rest are just birds that don't fit the standard. I'm interested to see which American category mine fit into, but basically I just wanted blue eggs. That lethal tufted gene isn't my cup of tea either. : )
Ahhh! That is interesting & funny about the lady. No smuggling illegal chickens!!
