Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

The latest hatch. However 95% of the Pekins and SLW tuned out to be duds. Some rooster shuffling is called for I think. Nice little Dark Barred Rocks and a solitary SLW. xxxx M I currently am running 5 pens of Araucanas with 41 birds altogether, producing an enormous amount of eggs. Getting pestered by people all over Australia wanting me to post eggs to them - I may give in one of these days and try it out.
Cute little beggars! I was only thinking of you and hatching the other day, there is a big industrial incubator on my local Facebook group for $600. Reminded me of your fridgebator. :) Are you still using that, notice you have downsized a bit in these pics.

Ashburnham,

What kind of incubator is that? I love the dividers! That would be most helpful when I hatch eggs. Does it have an automatic turner? I have to have a turner. Work too much.

I love all the chick pics

and the eggs! I hatched out a couple French marans and bought some olive eggers this past spring. I want dark brown eggs and green eggs. I am thinking of buying a few leghorns or another white egg layer. A local farmer raises leghorns and his eggs are so beautiful!! I want a rainbow of colors in my egg cartons

. Can't wait until spring here when they start laying again. Yesterday I got 0 eggs! UGH! Molting and not getting any sunlight. Poor girls.

Not very good news regarding the injured chick I've named Onni. I found her out of the nest on her back with the wound looking 10x worse than this morning.
I can only assume the others have pecked at it.
She was very weak and cold. I immediately scooped her up and set up a temp brooder box inside and had to borrow a lamp from my neighbour..
Hubby was not overly happy with that set up long term because of fire risk so I raced down to the pet shop and bought a ceramic heat lamp and set that up instead.
He's still not 100% convinced its safe. Ive got it suspended over the box not touching anything.
It's very touch and go for the poor thing but while she's got a bit of fighting spirit I'll do whatever I can to help.

Oh no! Hopefully Onni pulls through. The colored wound spray that Fancy suggested might be a good idea once it's time to reintroduce little Onni to the rest. And I've heard some people use mirrors with chicks that are alone to make them feel like they've got company.

By the way, has anyone tried superglue on (properly cleaned) cuts?

Yes! On a comb that had one of the little points severed to about halfway through. It must be cleaned and not bleeding. Also it can be hard to apply and doesn't work great for simply sealing an open wound. Great for holding putting back together a clean cut flap or similar. Worked a charm:D

I often use superglue on myself if I get a small cut on my hands, because it keeps dirt out of the cut and keeps it from getting infected. It does need to be properly cleaned though. But I would think that it would work pretty well on some chicken wounds as well, but like you said, it doesn't work on every type of wound, you need something for it to attach to. On my hands, it usually peels off after a few days, and I don't put it inside the wound, I just hold it closed and coat the surface so that it closes it completely. If someone tries this on a chicken (or something else), you need to monitor it, because if you haven't cleaned it properly, and something is left inside which gets infected, it wont drain like a stitched wound would. So if it starts to swell, you've got a problem and need to get the glue off. But it's nice to hear that someone has had positive experiences with this.
