Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I have had better weeks!

I lost Tina yesterday to an impacted crop :hit

Not only is Spot crowing ‘Gloria’ is now also crowing and is, in fact, George.

Trying to find homes for both of them now.

So, after months of upheaval and separation, 2 x hatches etc I am going to end up with one less chicken than when I started the whole process.

Feeling pretty darn depressed right now but hopefully in a couple of days, things will improve.

On a bright note (digging deep for this one!) the four remaining gals have lots of room!

Aww I'm sorry to hear you lost Tina....

Man this little 6 week old australorp has some spunk. I gave them the last of a slice of watermelon. I snapped it in half and the favs got one half the frizzles the other. Pepper just went up bold as brass and took it off the frizzles and carried it off into the run to eat herself lol. Poor Al didn't quite know what to think. She just stood there staring. Could imagine her thinking to herself " did that just really happen?" :)

Here's a new one for us all.

That is too funny!! Like an alcoholic would tell an officer "I only had a couple beers." We are chickenoholics!

Satay, I like the story about your cat and roo. Maybe the cat will learn his lesson. We had an adopted tom cat when we were renting our last home. The previous renters left him there for dead. Mr K was his name and he was meaner than a rattle snake to most, but so loving to us. My (then 3yr old) daughter could pick him up, love on him, pull his fur, whatever, he didn't care. But the neighbor came over one time and said Mr K had entered their home through a doggie door, ate up all their dog and cat food, beat up their 3 cats and little dog, and there he was, laying on my front porch, all stretched out like nothing happened.

Hi there folks

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and kind words. That one hurt big time!

Feeling a bit better today.

I ended up taking Tina to the vet as I did not want to lose her and could not risk rehoming the boys if she had anything contagious. Apparently, being broody, looking after the bubs, immediately going broody again, the bush turkey visit, the hail storm, Spot trying to mount her and fluctuating temperatures were all too much for Tina and basically her system shut down causing an impacted crop. We tried frequent crop massages and olive oil but no joy and the only other option was surgery but the vet felt her chances of survival were pretty slim and it was not going to be cheap.

So, I am down to 4 gals now; the boys left for their new homes yesterday. Going to stay that way for a while also. I think we all need some time to get over the recent upheaval and settle back into some degree of normality for a while.

appps aaaw Pepper sounds adorable! I can picture Al’s expression.

satay Lols at “I have about 12 chickens … maybe 15” Yeah, 12 acres of chickens that is!!

Loved the Pekin rooster versus the cat story. Funny!
