I'm getting a bit desperate to find a home for Baby. I'm up to 160 views of my add and no takers. I called the RSPCA this morning after a bout of crowing and they will only kill him.

I'll be cracking out the sewing machine later to make a crow collar. At least it was all after 9am. Still, dread to think how annoyed my neighbours are.

Thanks for the bday wishes.

Well I had all my plans set out and I finally got enough Leghorn hens to start collecting eggs for selling, and then I had to go away for a month (was definitely not a holiday hahah).
Some neighbours looked after the chickens while I was away and in that time they had two surprise hatches (One hatch yielded 16 mix chicks and the other 8), My only Leghorn rooster (Pew Pew) is missing and has been now for 8 days along with two Leghorn hens, 1 leghorn pullet and my two favourite Marans. Quite upset about.
I have my yokos, 1 brown frizzled hen and then a bunch of young 'white chickens' left now.

Sooooo I am going to start all over again hahaha.
It should be fun though, think I'll sell all the chickens I have left and go into Marans.

It is sure hard when you loose them young or old. I found my rir hen drowned in the duck pen this morning. She was getting really old but I have no idea what she was thinking flying over into the duck pen. I doubt the ducks had anything to do with it as they are not the slightest aggressive to chickens I would say she has misjudged her landing into the duck pen. R.I.P reddy.

Went out this morning to change the water for the chooks and on a whim opened up the box they're in. I immediately discovered that the second chick was stood upon mid-hatch and was killed. I removed it and found a third hatching. Hopefully this goes better for him. My husband is -very- sad. He always takes this sort of thing very hard. :/

I just wanted to extend my condolences to both of you on your losses. It is always sad to lose a loved family pet. My thoughts are with you both.

I've gone 2 from 2 - I definitely don't have a good track record! There's another one next month, may be a bad idea if I went to this one.

I was at a BBQ last week telling one of my ' chicken friends ' about chickens being long sighted in their left eye which is why they always look up for predators with that eye, when a lovely ' woofer ' from France said, " ecusemwha , but how do you know so much about chickens ?"
