Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Tee hee Fancy yep, lesson learnt and luckily no-one expired at the expense of that lesson but definitely a lesson that will not need a refresher

appps nothing beats the smell of an early morning poop with intestinal lining; can’t get that smell out of the nose for hours

sjturner79 oops, sorry, I thought you were just enquiring where I got my fertile eggs, not looking at getting some yourself. Yep, Burbank is a long way to go

She also had the property on the market when I was there in February as her husband was unwell and she was down-sizing; she may not be selling eggs anymore.

If no-one in here has any (and with the current egg drought, probably the case), I have used Gumtree in the past or one of these two:

MagicPidge ah, now you mention it, I have broken the 6 chicken limit when I have chicks but I kinda figure they do not count, like puppies and kittens

TY Very much - I was asking about yours cause i like the look of your results. I will check out what i can find on the links - I really want Bantam Marans and Aracunas - neither of which i have actually seen, also frizzles which are around but hard to find egg sellers for.

Dear satay, can I please visit you I have plans to eat some of those yummy fruits lol

when I was young I used to climb both guava and star fruit trees in the summon time and eat them sitting on s tree branch. If you have really ripe guavas you can make a dessert out of them along with some coconut milk brown sugar and tapioca pearl yummmmm

You'd be more than welcome anytime :)

I do deep litter, probably not the same way others would but it works for me.
I just have a thick layer of wood shavings, I've done it in the kit coops and my current very well ventilated old tankstand.m. As long as it doesn't get really wet I haven't noticed any smell at all, flies are worse in the run where I throw scraps but over all not bad just a few here or there but I live in the country, there's always flies!

I'm only allowed 6 birds (of any poultry) and no roosters which I think is pretty uniform in residential areas in aus? I have 9. Down the road from me had 8 including a rooster but I think he's gone as I haven't heard him in a while

That's how I do it as well.

I haven't been able to find out how many we can have, our local council fact sheet doesn't mention that little detail at all (and insure as heck ain't ringing to let them know they forgot that bit) . I take that to mean as many as fit comfortably :). I'm thinking 10 eventually, as I'm adding a couple each year so I never have a whole flock of retired geriatric hens :)

Hi all. I've been lurking for a bit, but thought I would put in my 2c worth. Our council didn't have a max number of chickens allowed, but there were rules about noise, odour and how far a coop was from water source. All regulations and by laws should be readily available on their website . Ours are part of the Territory Legislatiin, so they are on the nt government site too

. We live rural now, so we can have heaps. Cost of feed is our limiting factor.
