Hey guys! Still 3 eggs a day here, a white/cream and 2 varying shades of brown, I think one of my girls might have started as I'm getting the occasional pullet egg, possibly Hermione the barnevelder as they are darker than the isa eggs.

I use wood shavings in my nest box, my mil used to put a folded newspaper underneath straw in her nests so she could just lift the lot out as replace. I just use a kitty litter scoop to scoop out any poo and top up with fresh shavings. I found mine slept in the best box when I didn't have enough roosting space.

New girls are fully integrated now and the kit coop has been blocked off. Going to dismantle fix it up and turn into a dog kennel.

Kittens are getting so big! Will have to get some photos for you, just the 2 girls waiting on a home now

I'm sure this egg is fertile am I able to hatch this silkie eggs in the Bator? It's just way too small pearl is no longer a pullet

As I mentioned earlier, just sharing some pictures I took today .. Crystal and KiKi are coming up for 14 weeks old.

While not posing pictures, I took the following to show the colouring Crystal and KiKi have.

You can see the blue in Crystals wings and she has a blue/silver 'undertone' to her buff feathers. KiKi has the funniest tail with it's black lines and you can also just see them in her neck feathers.

The chickens just came off their big molt and being winter i wasnt expecting any eggs but when i went out to feed them this morning i found this on the floor of the coop. Its a bit dirty as it was on the floor of the coop. Is this just a oops egg or is something more serious happening that i am unware of? Sorry about the picture the phone wasnt focusing properly

Looks like what is referred to as a ' lash ' , nothing to worry about ATM , but keep an eye on her.

thanks famcy...i kept an eye on her all day today and seems alright. It would be sad to loose her to this she is my best layer.

Many people report that chooks have laid one lash egg and then returned to normal, however the cause of these eggs is very controversial. Just out of curiosity, did you dissect it ?

I did.. it had a shell in the middle with what i can only discribe as a very thin membrane, It looked like a clear egg white in the shape of the circle at one end; at the top end it had a small amount of white thickish substance (looked similar to a cooked egg white) The egg shell in the middle was empty and no smell.

I should say, the exception to that rule are of course silkies. Mine lay all through winter and make up in quantity for their lack of size.
Could have something to do with the fact that they spend most of the warmer months broody .

So agree with you Fancy. I have an older neighbour granted he is nearly 70 who is convinced chickens don't lay over winter and will never lay at easter I have tried to explain to him that it is due mostly to when they are hatched. He is not convinced even though I have showed him eggs laid at easter. He told me they must be old ones I have missed as no chicken ever lays over easter...I give up

Well my wyandotte hens have not laid a single egg in Winter - ever! and I am 68 so it must be an age gender thing...

Cant really see what the fellas age has got to do with anything.......

Mm, I'd be inclined to give her a dose of antibiotics just in case it is viral. I've only ever had one lash egg and I suspect it was from my old isa brown. She was ex battery and had her ups and downs , health wise, and unfortunately she died after displaying the classic symptoms that the chicken chick describes in her link. Still she was nearly 8 yrs old, not a bad innings I'd say.
