I'm excited about this though I should have checked on this before I got my chickens. Thankfully I don't have to worry now. Just wanted to share the good news.

Oh goodness!!! There is no way I'd be happy with those very restrictive rules hahaha, but I'm glad that you are able to now legally own your chickens. Good luck with them all (all 5....).

@Fancychooklady congratulations on those little Silkies. I've had a few surprise hatches before and it's so much more exciting so see them just 'pop' up randomly than knowing exactly when they'll hatch.

@Fancychooklady suprise babies! How awesome!
I am building a new nesting box area. My one and only layer doesn't want to lay in the coop. So when I let them out in the morning, she waits by the gate to the enclosure, I let her out, she runs to a "secret" spot under a bush and sings and cackles and lays her egg, then runs to find me so I will let her back in the enclosure for breakfast. It isn't a long term solution but it is funny.

Today a heavy downpour trapped me on the coop mid-construction with 24 chooks and 1 very outnumbered cat. The previous chooks chased and pecked the cats so the cats are a little leery of them in close quarters, as the chooks are of a "predator". They have never been hurt by the cats, just startled some, but I expect it is instinct. The rain meant we all had to get along for a while. It was a mad rush for the door when the shower passed.

Found an unexpected suprise when I got home from town today. Wasn't sure how long she had been sitting.

Aww too cute and great work on the photography.

@tandykins get hubby to pee around the perimeter...the foxes don't like it. If you chain the dogs up the foxes will walk around them.

It is raining and the chooks are out. They don't want to come in, even for their favorite seed. They want weeds. I figure they will go in when they are ready and will lay some hay in preparation.

I have heard of that too, just had visions of me sending hubby out to pee the perimeter of our 6 acres. He may get one lap done in a year :lau This would work much better on small land of course.

Top o’ the morn’n to y’all

*Chuckle* I will be keeping an eye out for news headlines along the lines of ‘Multiple Individuals Charged With Indecent Exposure; Possible Link to Chickens

Cool and thanks sjturner79 I am pleased to know that I am not the only one who thinks chickens play. Sorry, I have no idea on mixing breeds and the possible results; I will leave that one up to those more experienced.

Fancy what an adorable unexpected surprise and as always, beautiful pictures!

Sidhe13 your only layer story was cute … what a funny little girl.

Try not to piddle on the electric fence though!

Apparently one of his mates did that when they were full of alcohol one night. I have been hit by an electric fence at a dairy we worked on years ago when it was raining., I picked up the plastic grip to shut the gate when the cows came through and it booted me... Let's just say city chic and electric fence boot leaded to me sitting on the muddy ground in the pouring rain crying and cursing darn cows.. Felt like my arm was ripped out of it''s socket, can't imagine what it would be like getting a boot to the old fella.

Saw this on FB this morning:

Hahahaha! Ohhh man! I remember being about 3 and my older sister tricked me into touching an electric fence. I have had a healthy awareness of them all my life! YouTube the people peeing on electric fences! It is hilarious! Watching them kicked my sister's labour into gear!

I love how my layer, Wonky, clucks and chatters to her eggs before she settles in to lay...the other 2 hens were so loud and screechy...she just murmurs and chuckles quietly and peacefully.

My babies are nearly ready for new homes. 9 or 10 hen out of the 16. 2 of the roosters have beautiful colours and markings. They are all fairly tame...one white rooster likes to sit on my knee (I think I will keep him). I don't think I can kill them. They will need to be rehomed.
