Sam I am in awe and have no idea how you do this!

I have been up for nearly 2 hours and it is still dark out … eeeeew!

I am going to have to break Cilla, there is no way I have room for a broody or more bubs and she was already chasing everyone away from the coop/nests.

I have some wire panels that I used as a temporary run and figured I can disconnect them from each other and turn them into a crate … all I need to do now is toughen up and not feel sorry for her; I think this is going to be harder on me than it is her.

I usually try the lock out and continual move from the nest boxes but I think I need to break her quickly with some tough love. While she is looking pretty good, I do not think she has regained enough weight and condition from the last hatch as yet and any extended time on reduced food etc is not going to be good for her.

It won’t hurt to have a broody breaker; I am sure I will need it again

You do become a custom to it Teila. I have used the hose to wet mine and keep her off the nests

So, I ran out of time to build the broody breaker crate but as it turns out, it appears to not be a problem.

While Cilla did sleep in the nest box last night, it was not the one she likes because that was blocked off. When I went out to feed them this morning, she was scratching around the run with the others and has stayed outside with them all day during supervised free range.

I do believe that the combination of not being where she wanted to, a chilly evening and overcast, showery, cool day may just have cooled those hormones for a while and convinced her that now is not a good time to be broody

Well I am knackered! Spent all day moving 3-4 tonne of firewood from our trees to my dad's. Nice to have lawn again :)

My urban orchard in the gum trees place is taking shape. Planted a dwarf apricot and have ordered a dwarf mulberry :). I am searching for more to add but seems to be out of stock of most that I want. I'm trying to be too early for fruit fly, my parents have a plum that we harvest before Christmas which never gets them so I'm getting all early fruiting varieties that crop a similar time. Suspect in a few years I'll be complaining about the excess of fruit all before Christmas and asking for bottling tips :)
