Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Tee hee Kleonaptra, maybe I should purchase the Crow Come Here then I could play Crow Be Gone at my house and Crow Come Here at the end of the street

ChistieB I have heard good stories of giving chicks to broodies. I have never tried it and I am not sure I would try it if the broody has not raised chicks before but I would definitely give it a go. As suggested, at night and definitely keep an eye on them/her.

Aaaaw Sidhe13 that is so adorable!

I would not put it past our Crows to try and pull the laptop apart if they found it but that is OK, it is an antiquated lap top that I haven’t used for many years, playing an mp3 is probably all it is capable of doing.

Anyways, it is on top of the back fridge, just inside the shed door and hopefully disguised enough that they do not come looking for it.

So, the morning of Day 2:
I got woken by hungry chickens, not cawing Crows but once awake, I could hear some Crows in the neighbourhood. Turned the mp3 on at 06:00am.

There have been a couple of caws very close to home and two Crows were sitting in the front tree but they do not seem to be hanging around long and actually do seem nervous.

Some tweaking as to volume and position may still be required but even if I do not get rid of them entirely, progress to date has been wonderful.

Slight pangs of guilt that they are hanging around elsewhere in the neighbourhood driving someone else insane

When my son got home from work yesterday I was telling him how it seems to be working and he was pleased. The Crows have been waking him up early; he does not like to be woken up early, especially on the weekend when he does not have to work. Today will be another test, we shall see if he gets to sleep in and if he heard the few stragglers at all.

Anyways, as I type this, it is so beautifully quiet out there, not a caw to be heard. I had forgotten what a quiet morning actually sounded like and I am loving every second of it right now!

Glad to hear that it is working. Yesterday we had a flock of black cockatoos bring their young in . My German shepherd took offence to the constant noise and ran around the base of the tree barking at them. ;)
Snow here again and once again on flood watch. Time to bring the livestock up from the river flats.
Egg production is in full swing and I already have 3 silkies out with Broodyitis .

I agree. Try at night but be watchful. Some mums will except babies and some wont.

That is so true. Some will take 10 day olds on the day they go broody and there are others who will do the whole hatch only to infinite or attack the chicks once they hatch.

My Broodies are on day 10 and 23 and they warn off the 3 week old when they jump into the nest. Hopefully I will have some babies popping out from under the hen in a few days.

It seems Pearl may have been in the collection stage longer than I thought.

@Teila I'm not sure that the crows are noisier than my flock, so I always hope they are what neighbours remember more. :)
I'm curious how the sound works. Is it a recording of crow alarm calls or something?

Hey cwrite … It is reported to only be targeted at Crows and does not affect other pets including dogs, cats, chickens and guinea pigs. It emits the sounds a crow or raven makes when it is warning others that a predator is nearby and a mix of bird calls; maybe a Hawk and/or Eagle and sections where it plays nothing at all which apparently makes the Crows even more nervous. It is not a continuous sound to which they could become accustomed.

It has not upset the girls at all and is not played very loud to the point that I can hardly hear it and the neighbours definitely could not.

There are reports that playing the CD has a positive affect on other birds and some people have reported an increase in the number of song birds, lorikeets etc which could be the result of the Crows clearing out. As I mentioned yesterday, this could be the case here also as I have seen some Lorikeets today and yesterday after not seeing them for a very, very long time; also, while not exactly a good thing, the Turtle Dove numbers appear to have increased back to what they were before the Crow invasion.

Anyways, these are just my research and my findings after two days. Will keep documenting (good and bad) for anyone interested or future reference.

PS. Appps their web site advises "Our Crow be Gone CD has been extremely successful around the world with American Crows, Australian Crows, Australian Ravens, Carrion Crows, Fish Crows, Hooded Crows, Little Crows, Ravens, Little Ravens, Rooks, Jackdaws and Magpies"

Update: Afternoon of Day 2

While the majority of the Crows have now cleared off; there are a persistent two who are still trying to hang around in the front tree etc. I believe these are the original two who may have plans to nest out there.

While they keep coming back, they do not stay long and seem nervous while here.

It's worth a try. I've read that it is best done at night to get the broody to accept the chicks, but have never tried it myself.

I've been struggling with my pc being super slow every time I use this site and the last time I was typing a reply my pc went black and died. Has anyone else had problems with it? I'm having to use my phone now.
Anyway, I thought something had happened to Pearl as I couldn't find her anywhere this morning. Just as I was about to give up I spotted something pale in the nasturtiums and there she was, huddled over a nest. She's only just started laying!

Internet explorer does not like this site. I had troubles for ages before I finally downloaded chrome. Now its only occasionally slow. My phone is apparently an unsupported device, so cant do pics from my phone. Constant pain in the butt
