Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Sad news. Got home today and hubby said "I saw one of the chickens had got outside their yard and was trying to get back in when I got home".

That was an hour before I got home and I asked if he had put it back in. His reply "No I didn't think to" had me flying out the door. I located the poor thing under a small tree and tried to dropper some water in its mouth but it was too late and it died in my arms.

I will be clipping wings soon so no one can fly out again.

That is so very sad locknest4.

I only have 3 chickens, but after every moult when their wings have grown full on again - they get clipped. Both sides.

That way I know they cannot fly far - or high. They are just as happy waddling around as they would be flying up into trees - to get into all kinds of strife.

I am not of the age to be climbing trees to retrieve chooks .... and hubby wouldn't think about it.

Sad for your loss - - -

Had many laughs at the stories of what husbands can get up to ( or not ), when shopping.

I don't shop with mine for normal everyday stuff. Don't want to see all the black looks that I ( and most everyone else ) gets. And he is impatient, claiming that fast is the only way to shop - grab and go is his motto.

All the 'ya don't want that' ( to me ) has me reaching for the nearest whatever to hit him with ( only joking ) .... when I DO want 'that'. !! They certainly can be a strange bunch

However, if hubby is left to shop by himself - ( he takes hours in fact - his theory of grab and go, goes out the window ) .... he always comes home with the best looking gifts for Christmas and Birthdays, and great cards.

Having had a bung ankle for 2 years which intermittently gives me the horrors, he offered to do my Kris Kringle shopping this year too ... which was good of him - and he purchased some
amazing stuff.

I ripped an entire ligament in my foot / ankle - and it disappeared altogether, never to be found again. They are like elastic, so when it totally split, all that was left were the ends, no visible fibres, and the surrounding tissue would have absorbed the ends quickly. Most times it is ok, providing I walk a particular way, and on occasions with a walking cane - but in summer it swells and is painful; I cannot remain on my feet for long. So he offered to shop and I accepted.

If I had been with him - it could have been the start of World War 3 . !! Problem only raises its head - in shops !!

You have a good one there anni. If I sent hubby to Christmas shopping for me no one would get anything as someone would annoy him in the shops and he'd just up and leave.

satay I gave your Belgian’s post an ovation when I read it yesterday but still have to comment on it today .. too funny!

Thank you .. ditto .. right back at ya! Hoping you have a wonderful Christmas and bag lots of bargains at the sales.

locknest4 I hope you get some relief from the heat soon. Yep, my gals do not like it when I try and help them with a hose damping. I actually now just shower-spray the greenery around their favourite spot so while they are actually not getting wet, the surrounding flora and ground is damp and hopefully cooler for them.

sjturner79 your little ones are so cute .. I love all their little attentive expressions, taking in all the wonders of the big wide world.

Fancy lol .. great pic!

Ouch Anniebee!

Well, hubby survived the shopping trip, in that I did not kill him and he did not punch anyone. There were some expletives in the parking lot and lots of grumbling and moaning at the lack of spaces. I believe we got everything

It was funny to hear him comment while waiting to cross over a parking lane “gees, does that guy think it is a race track or something?” and not seconds later, when he spotted a gap, booted it and did some race track driver impersonations of his own

OK, so I am not worried as such .. lets go with concerned
hmm.png

LuLu has not laid an egg since the 13th; not really a cause for concern, Dusty also went 10 days without laying, Crystal 6 days .. they tend to be erratic and I think the heat gets to them.

Anyways yesterday LuLu seemed ‘off’. Her poops are OK, her comb colour is good but yesterday afternoon she was dopey, not running around as much as the others, kinda keeping to herself and laying down in the run, under the gazebo, in the garden etc. About 4pm she headed off to the nest box and I thought she was going to lay but she was still in there at roost time so I thought it best to leave her be .. I was hoping to get up this morning and find an egg in there.

Sadly, no egg. She is still dopey this morning and did not seem interested in breakfast but she is still scratching and picking bits up from the run. She is also still preening but tending to do it while laying down. She is not straining or looking uncomfortable and neither hubby or I can but a finger on it, but she does not seem quite right. Of course it is raining today so mucking about with her too much is not an option but I will be keeping a close eye on her. She is not one for being held, but I might have to give her the once over if the weather clears.

Good morning everyone,
Last night I endeared myself even more to the girls by plucking them off their roosts. Then each of them got a wing trim and petroleum jelly smeared onto their combs and wattles (for the stick fast lice). I also gave their legs a smear while I was there. So much easier than trying to catch them during the day!
Off to do a bit of food shopping before it gets too crowded. It was 41° yesterday! Today its supposed to be 27° -lovely!
I wish everyone a happy Christmas day 2moro (fingers crossed the kids sleep in till 7am)

Going to be a hot one.

cheers . :)

Cherry Pie; done! Now to finish the Trifle and Pumpkin Pie
Looks great. I'm just waiting for the egg custard to cool to finish off the trifle. I'm gonna hit a wall soon, went for an early morning paddle up the river and mowed the lawns before it gets too hot . You just reminded to go down to the cherry co op and get some fresh cherries for the Xmas table. :)
