I use acv every day in all the pens. Never had a lice issue til the other day and then it seemed to be only for one day and nothing since

Did get lice on the marans once and that was cause the boys were doing their water and didn't put it in.

That is interesting .. I use it every day also but I still had an infestation.

None of mine will go near meal worms in any form not even the ducks. So my lot are really weird. They are loving pumpkin at the moment. I picked up a heaps for 15c kg the other day so i smash one in their runs a couple times a week.

Must do a pumpkin smash soon - never have, never thought they would eat it, but have chopped up some pumpkins seeds in the past which they devoured. Didn't think they'd be able to wade through such tough flesh - but then ?? they are chooks.

I spent almost $13.00 for the packet of dried mealworms for them ( the blighters ) so will pulverise them to powder with mortar and pestle, next time they get a rice and goodies mash, and put a teaspoon or so in that way ... there is no way I am about to waste almost $13.00 of chook treats. Mindy meanwhile can have hers 'straight up'. With moulting nearing an end ( I hope ) I will be backing off protein somewhat, so those mealworms will last quite a while.

SilkieChickStar Welcome you’ll love it here. I haven’t been on long myself and I love it. So many helpful friends. I have 6 silkies 5 hens and a roo. I love them. I also have ISA’s and Australorps.

Teila My girls are in and out of their new coop roosting and scratching, they were the same in the old coop. The young girls and boys are in the old coop and they do the same thing. So I’m guessing they will do what makes them happy. Thanks for the info on the ACV I will buy the organic one tomorrow when I go shopping.

Chook Newby Love the recipe thanks. I is ACV for the same reasons as Teila , I would be interested to know about the mites too. My nephew has chickens and he has a lot of trouble with mites.

Sad news, both my little chicks have vanished.
I guess I must have a predator of some sort again. No signs of rats or mice again, midday disappearance, so probably something aerial.

My D'uccle is 2 weeks 2 days old. What are the chances of being a girl? Is it too early to tell? Comb seems to be quite pink and growing fast

It's really to soon to tell, but is looking slightly male so far. A female tends to grow the comb and tail smaller and later than a male, but not always.
