Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

MyHaven, so sorry about the diagnosis and tough decisions ahead of you. I really hope none of your flock relapses and continue to improve :) The forums always here for venting, I'm sure you'll be needing to do a bit of that.

Yesterday afternoon
Beautiful.

MyHaven I am so sorry to hear about your flock

Just wanted to mention in lighter news, that Beatrice is six months old today! It's not her hatch day but adoption day (I've no idea when she hatched exactly, so this is the closest approximation) I got her at 8 weeks I think, It seems like a long time ago now, all the craziness we've gone through. The little monster celebrated by getting wet dirt stuck across her feathers.

So, I know you are all going to think I am mad , but I have a little bantam roo that goes in to the nest box and sits beside the hens while they lay. He is the funniest little dude, chuck chucks to them and then joins in with the egg song . Watched him for over an hour today, strangest thing. At first I thought it was just a favourite hen , so I hung around and watched, no he went in with each of them.

Fizzybelle just my experience with my determined broody bunch but if I let one of them within cooee of a nest, right back to square one on the breaking. I agree that she may just be getting a little too comfortable in the crate … snug, warm and brooding.

Happy 6 months to Beatrice .. she is beautiful!

satay lol .. yeah, it is like they are their own worse enemy, not laying and half naked .. half the plucking, a roasting pan and some potatoes .. dinner is served

[Of course I am just kidding, not a chance in the proverbial that I would eat one of my gals].

Sam beautiful pic!

MyHaven I am so very sorry to hear the diagnosis and the tough decisions you have to make; just awful!

As Fizzybelle suggested, you are not alone and if you need to vent, need some support, virtual hug etc that is the least we can do

Aaaw Fancy your little bantam rooster sounds like a wonderful, caring little man; kinda like an expectant Dad .. so cute! What do the girls think about having him coaching them? “Deep breath, one two three, deep breath, one two three .. now push .. squeeze my wing feather”

So I have what may be a silly question about feather colouring but in my defence, I do not have a large number of chickens and have not gone around looking at other chickens' undersides

If you remember, back when Crystal was feathering out, I mentioned that she was buff with a blue/silver undertone and even now I am amazed how she is buff on the outside but when she stretches up and flaps her wings she is blue/silver underneath .. kinda like a reversible chicken

With the flock, I am used to either one colour of feather, Dusty & Cilla’s feathers are solid black or like with Blondie and LuLu, darker on the tips and fading towards the body/quill tip.

Crystal, however, has this one side buff, one side blue/silver thing going on which explains the reversible chicken .. is this common?

I have tried to catch a picture of her when she is showing her blue/silver underside but no luck yet. The camera did not catch the blue/silver as well as I would have liked on the feathers but you get the idea....

It is not unusual for a mixed breed chicken at all, it is something that anybody working show birds works really hard to avoid though.
