Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Light fittings? God they get into some terrible places. I've sprayed so far, but I'll try some of the suggestions to see how they go. Surface sprays never last the promised 6 months.

Well we had some rain this morning. My three bantams decided to stay outside and get wet, despite me trying to round them up under cover. As they were standing under the tree in their dirt spot, Beatrice decided to have a dirt bath....in the rain. The others thought that was such a fantastic idea that they joined in too. The dirt was dry under the top layer. It was at that point I gave up and left them to it. They now have muddy spots on their feathers. Chicken logic

I think for us qlders and our chickens the site of rain is light a great day at a spa for them as they don't often see it.

I had a terrible night. Had let the girls out in the yard just before dark for a quick range. It started to rain heavily. Everyone went for cover. Where I had the male quails I'd been sexing was getting wet. So I got them out caged them and brought the drenched little things inside to dry. I sat down and watched a little TV while I waited for the rain to stop so I could lock the coops. I have the big girls separate to the little ones. The silkies are just outside my back door in an aviary.

The rain stopped so went out - here's two big huskies in the coop. My darlings already dead as they tore them apart. The dogs had a go at me when I yelled at them to get out. I was stunned. Then thought "they're not getting away". I noticed they had shut themselves in so I locked them in and called the council.

I never heard a thing over the rain and I was only 5m away.

Illness is one thing but I am finding this hard to take.

700

Omg So sorry for your loss. Did any of your ladies survive? :hugs

Oh MyHaven .... that is absolutely terrible, and such a shock to you, to see such devastation.

It was good that you know dogs and how to handle a situation, without showing fear. ... and good that the council was called.

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss ....

Sorry to hear of your loss, and silkie seem to hard to get at the moment. At least the dogs were captured and hopefully will be prevented from doing the same to someone else .

One of our old dogs killed our chickens years ago it was a terrible sight. I hope you're coping ok.
I'm glad you got them. Now at least you know the culprits.

Teila I hope your ok.

So sorry for your girls. I had a similar thing happen here a few years ago only it was 2 x Rottweiler that wreaked havoc here. Our council made the owner pay for the chickens and the coop that they wrecked. Small consolation I know, but at least the owner might think twice if it hurts the hip pocket.

Teila, I hope you're doing ok :)

Myhaven, I'm so sorry for your losses, and the terrible way in which it happened, that's just heartbreaking. Did they look like strays or someone's pet that was roaming around? I'd just want to wring their necks, your poor chookies. I'm guessing these dogs just jumped the fence? Hope you're doing ok during this difficult time :)
