Funny thing happened today. I was making salads for our family dinner tonight. I had heaps of scarps for the girls, so I took a break from the kitchen and gave the scraps to the girls. Then I thought while I'm out here I'll get the eggs. Someone decided to lay an egg behind the portable coop and that's behind a dwarf orange tree. I grabbed a hoe stuck by bum in the tree and promptly got stung on the bum by a bee. That was the end of anymore cooking. I yelled for my husband and off we went to hospital were I spend nearly 3hrs. I am extremely allergic I carry a epi-pen, lucky for me it was my bum and I pulled my pants away from the bee sting that took the stinger out and saved my from an extreme reaction. All good now.

merry (belated) christmas everybody, i hope everyone had a wonderful christmas day

we are so busy renovating our kitchen and living area, caring for the chickens, which gives me not much time to spend on my computer, well have to go to work every day atm ( age cares not closing down lol)

Teila, Blondie and Esmé's similarities continue, with regards to dirty, wet feet. Though to be fair, they all had dirty feet after yesterdays rain. Poor Dusty's bald head, she'll be beautiful again in no time though. Still love Chimee's mustache, so dapper! The mealworms were a nice accent on the girls christmas lunch I must say. Oh and be careful your cats don't expect ham and turkey everyday! We gave our old boy all the chicken and ham he wanted for christmas one year, then the next day when we fed him regular cat food he looked at us like 'what the hell are you trying to pull? where's the real food?'

My girls got corn and peas, and they've cleaned me out of mealworms, I need to wait for more to hatch now.

Hehe, I doubt that your girls are even aware that they are chickens. Lucky girls. I lost my oldest gold laced Wyandotte yesterday to the heat. Everyone else enjoyed the Xmas scraps including Peking duck.

Thanks guys, as I said she was old . She has a stash of eggs I'm half tempted to put some under a silkie. It's only been wyandottes that I've lost to the heat too.
My new coop is almost finished. I'm calling it ' The Chamber ' coop, because it was once the shipping crate used to ship the new hyperbaric chamber over.
The ramp ends are a result of our horsey background and it still needs some aviary wire and cladding at each end. The good thing about it , is it services both runs and the bachelors on the other side love it.
