Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Good morning folks :frow

Thank You all for the well wishes and congratulations :hugs  Yep, now the planning commences in earnest.

Hubby will probably be gone in 3-4 weeks, start date not firm yet.

He will be up there way before me and build the coop; probably similar to what we have here as we like the design.  Once the coop is built, the girls and cats will fly up to be with him and I will sell the current coop.  Lots of packing to keep me amused, plus throwing away of stuff, advertising of stuff on Gumtree and may be a garage sale.

The lease does not run out until August and I will definitely not be leaving until my son has bought his unit so my join hubby date is anywhere between March and August.  I will miss him so much but the light at the end of the tunnel is worth it.

Anniebee I will have to give some thought to my farewell to the Crows ;)

You may actually get to see decent rain up there. ;)

Thank you. I have not seen it again since but will keep an eye out for it for sure.
My mum had a hysterectomy many years ago when she owned a take away store that i worked with her at.. Doc said stay home for 8 weeks after wards and rest. She lasted 4 days and then sat on a chair in the corner of the shop barking orders at me for the next 8 weeks lol. I'd ring dad every now and then and beg him to come take her home.
My guess would be a leghorn as the cross but could be something like a sussex cross also.
I think her eyes look fine.

I'd agree with leghorn , that lopsided comb is a dead giveaway.

Satay..I hope all went well today and no issues with the Hawke!
Teila I will be giving some thought for creative ideas for the crows send off lol
Millie's eye looks like there is no infection...below is photo's of both eyes...what do you think?

I am going mad with boredom.... recuperating and its for 6 weeks!!!! I'll go mad!
I have been curious about one of my original Hamburg's Madge...she's a bully! She has the following traits that my other Hamburgs DON'T have:- full comb almost like a rooster, neck feathers like a rooster, yellow feet, brown eyes, very large almost round beige eggs. Sadly she is not laying the last 3 days.... usually lays everyday! The photos below show Madge and Tilly they are the same age but Madge is much larger and she a very fluffy bottom ... ver cute. Can anyone shed some light on what breed Sh is crossed with?

Tilly looks just like my hamburgs and they are the most sweet natured chooks.

She looks a bit like my Andalusian she has a big floppy comb. My leghorn has a floppy comb but not such a fluffy butt, but she is only young. I would say mine is a bit "fluffier" than it was when I was younger.

Off to market to sell my Araucana rooster. It started crowing, its much later than the other one, but he is now much bigger than his sister and just starting to crow, I don't want to upset the neighbours. I hope everyone is having a cool day.

Good morning folks

Millie’s eye looks good to me!

LuckysMum sorry to hear that your little man has to be rehomed.

i found my blue marans yesterday sitting on about 30 eggs under a table behind hubbys shed. Cheeky girl.

It is certainly that time of year! I found a SLW hiding in the hedge on eggs and this morning I could hear chicks coming from a pen that I wasn't aware anyone was sitting in. 6 silkies hatched and 2 that didn't quite make it due to the others in the pen. Chickens everywhere, I am going to have to sell some before hubby starts counting them.

Anniebee, after I let them out of the house and back into the yard, I went to sit back down on the couch Ezzie and Bea had been on and I realized I forgot the towel that was on the back of it. I pulled it down and dear Esmé had left me a parting poo gift! How thoughtful of her! It fell right into the corner of the couch and need fishing out. Luckily the couch is leather not fabric so cleaning is easy and effective. Sigh.

Satay, what are Marans like personailty wise? Your broody blue looks very pretty :)

Teila, at least you have a leisurely move on your hands, not get it all done at once as per usual. Makes things much less stressful. If you give Chucky and the crows a forwarding address they may come and visit ;)

Next time I move though, it'll be the other way, down south. Never thought I'd want to leave Queensland, but climate change and summer are something I'm not looking forward to in the future. I've noticed though the mornings this past week have had a coolness to them, hopefully our wonderful friend autumn is saying hello!

I've also held off on adding to my flock until next spring. My mother and I don't usually see eye to eye on chicken math, but a calm talk actually yielded a positive outcome. She knows I look after my girls properly, but she was concerned with my having a flock of hens all around the same age getting old and possibly passing away at the same time in the future, much like my original flock. I take the loss pretty hard as they're such special little bundles of fluff. So next spring when Ada and Annabelle are approaching the big three, and likely winding down egg production, and Mabel will be just over a year, sounds like a good variation in ages. She sounded keen on an Australorp :) Plus no way do any of us want to go back to buying eggs, it's just not the same.

Will you be able to candle them and see how many are likely to hatch.
I so badly want some Marans again. My poor little girl died a little while ago. Though I think she was pretty old.

I lost poor baldy on Monday morning. She was the one that the rooster had pecked her head mercilessly a few months ago, she had part of her skull missing. She was just starting to grow feathers back, I don't know what happened she was quiet on Sunday, but she was always a very quiet chook. She didn't lay eggs and would only eat grain she was a funny little girl. My poor granddaughter Mia cried and cried. She's so sensitive she doesn't even like it when the chickens catch a mouse.
