Hey guys hope everyone's well. It's been a little while. I'm fine as is my flock. LOVING the rain soooooooooo much, and now it's finally autumn (today is the autumnal equinox!) Here's some recent photos. One from the storm we had the other day, poor Mabel got wet but I think she enjoyed it since it had been so long, and little Esmé found a plant whose leaves make the most perfect pekin sized umbrella.

Wow satay that is some serious storm debris you have got there! All the leaves everywhere are a dead giveaway that you had some strong winds. Of course, not to mention the downed trees and growing future bonfire

I did not know that Jessie was the most common dogs’ name. Had FIL named her I think he would have come up with something more original but she was a rescue and already had that name. His last dog was Inu [Japanese for dog].

Hello again Duck Manor welcome to the thread. Are your ducks loving all this rain? Personally, I am over it now and would like a few days to dry out.

Love the pics and the ‘umbrella’ .. adorable!

I know we need it and I do like it but I also like the ground to have time to soak it all in before the next downpour .. the lawn has taken as much as it can for one two day period and is now forming puddles which will soon be lakes. I did notice on the radar yesterday that while we were being hammered, other areas of Brisbane were not. A couple of small storm cells seemed to be attracted to Boondall.

Blondie looks like no-one loves her and LuLu is a droople instead of a frizzle. Cilla has taken to going to bed whenever it rains so when it clears up I have to go and fish her back out of the coop or she would just sit there all day

I do have to sing the praises of the covered run and deep litter, while areas around it are going under water, the run is high and dry!

Oh dear, that is one grubby little chicken! I'm guessing she's in for a bath before bed. Beatrice my D'Uccle is broody and she can stay that way whilst it's raining. Cleaning her wet dirty feet is labor intensive, and one less job for me if she spends most of her time in the coop I'm actually pleased with my girls. I sat with them in the pen during the first storm and ever since they've been going into their pen to stay dry, as opposed to sitting under the palms. The areas where I lay down sugar cane mulch whilst wet, has reduced flooding so that's been good. Glad your chicken run has remained dry for your flock. Mine have been playing in wet dirt despite dry dirt in their pens. Sigh. Oh Blondies doppleganger, my Esmé is mid moult. Looks scruffy but still cute. Pin feathers have started coming through. Bea who is also moulting is still minus a tail lol. Weird though, she was laying eggs during her moult, and is now broody.

Yeah it has. humidity this morning is 96%.. Only getting to the late 20's in temp.
Intense it was i am not liking this weather at the moment cause the slightest noise or breath of wind freaks me out. Who'd of thought id ever say this but i'd be happy to go back to the land that rain forgot for a while. Though the rain has been nice. Since last tuesday we have had close to 200mm of rain.

Well, here goes. My first time using an incubator.
I went to pick up a dozen fertile eggs this morning and was given 3 dozen! A dozen from Black Leghorn show birds and two dozen mixed bantam eggs. Hopefully I have some chicks in 3 weeks time. I'm raising them to sell at a fete at the beginning of May.

I set these eggs at lunchtime on Saturday 4th March so I'm hoping that I have some chicks this weekend. I'm not 100% sure if I'm supposed to lockdown today or tomorrow but I've posted on the incubating forum.

Fuffybutt, one of my GLW X RIR hens has gone broody. She's raised chicks before and she's been broody for nearly a week now. This morning I took 18 of the bantam eggs out of the incubator and gave them to her instead of the couple of plastic eggs she was sitting on. There are still 6 bantam eggs in the incubator along with a dozen Black Leghorn eggs. Depending on my hatch rate, Fuffybutt might end up fostering all the chicks for me which will be a lot easier than using heat lamps.

In other news I had a phone call from the chap who gave me the eggs asking if I was interested in some Plymouth Rock eggs. He was going away so couldn't hatch them himself so has lent me another incubator and just wants a couple of the chicks

. So I now have a second incubator going with 15 Plymouth Rock and 4 barnyard-mix eggs. Fortunately this second incubator has an automatic egg turner.

Saw a part of that video on TV news ( Ch 9 ) last night. Found out that it is a Brahma !! ... I did think it might've had problems knowing if it's a hen or cockerel ( at first )

btw - the link mightn't work ( it didn't for me ), unless you copy and paste the entire thing into your browser. Works beautifully if used that way. Just clicking on the link brings up a blank page, for anyone having problems viewing it.

Interesting - the wings used to steady itself on it's large legs with that huge weight. Thanks for posting that.

The coop is coming along beautifully, all kudos to your hubby. They will be spoilt - again. And why not - chookies deserve to be spoilt.
