Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Thanks for the outpouring of love. It was an awful thing to happen, but now I'm fixing the fencing to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Satay, it's an awful chore and now I know why we all instinctively avoid it. I'll never again underestimate the deadliness of weeding.

Here is my lovely lady. She is so much more friendly then I was led to believe she would be. The lady who bred them let the mama Peahens raise all their own chicks and they just come up to their humans for treats as they free-range and sleep in the trees. While she is cautious of me, she hasn't done any of the flighty things that scared poultry do (flying up the walls, trying to escape) and while she doesn't eat out of my hand, she will walk by me without flinching or anything. I'm picking up her mate on Thursday or Friday and I'll hopefully have her permanent house ready by then. Her currant run is 2m by 3m and 6ft tall.

Also, the man who I'm getting her mate off is happy to take the Guinea Fowl. I'm getting rid of the Guinea because they attacked one of my golden Sebrights (the sebright is fine, but I'm not risking them again).

It has been 3 days now and she hasn't returned so I think she has really gone now:( .
I'm not sure now whether to keep my other duck if she doesn't have a friend, I mean she does have 20 chickens to hang with but well...chickens don't swim

Oh what a pity. Thought she would waddle home eventually :-(

We're you planning to free range them too colourful?

Know it takes a really long time for them to identify their new home as home and not wander long distances.

Yep, I heard that too. I figure they are like my guinea's and need about 3 months or so. The lady I got them off said 8 weeks + but I'll play it by ear and let them out when I feel they know where home is. It helps that it's Winter and their run will be very protected from drafts/ too much cold so they won't want to wander far from their food source when I do let them out.

Yep, they will be free to roam as they will :) I look forward to hearing the first of my Peacock calls (I hear they are quite loud).

Satay, I'm getting a budgie :-D any tips for how to care for them? Do they get lonely if you just have one? What do you fee them?

I have known people to only have one Pinky but I would suggest a pair at least . Mine are all pairs and they hang out in couples. Budgie feed and cuttle fish is all I give them besides the odd bit of lettuce or fruit here and there. I have noticed my budgies in the aviary stealing game bird food from the quail container.

It could only happen to me colourful. Main reason they stitched it was it would not stop bleeding the cut itself is not all that bad. Hubby looked last night and there are only two small stitches not three. Love your new girl.

Ill check with my mum but her neighbour from a long way off (she only knew they were his because she knew he got some)had his leave and move to her yard a long time after that. He kept having to come and get them. So I would err on the longer side of time.
She also ended up with six of his juveniles in there one day too so even being born somewhere doesn't mean you are going to stay put lol

Oh no!
I log on after the weekend to check on the news and find some sad stories :-(
Colourful and Luke, so sad you lost your birds!
Luke, since you have not found your duck there is still a chance she got scared and did a "runner", and someone will eventually find her?
