Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi, I'm new to BYC and don't really know how to go about the whole thing, have just got info up to now and thought I may as well join. I live on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia.
That's all I'm going to say until I know someone has read this and then I'll know I'm connected somehow??????  :/ I have had 3 hens for about a year almost and they are beautiful and would love some to and fro about keeping chooks and all. My user name is Varooka. look forward to hearing from someone  :)

Welcome. I have relatives on the mornington peninsula.

Luke, you and the garlic questions have so made me giggle! I haven't been on here for a bit due to work and you popped up regularly asking different quesitons about it - mind you, makes me think I'll boil some too!

So please Tuppence is ok!

I spray my girls houses once a month with that tick spray from the vet (fidos?) is that enough to stave away mites and lice? I am getting a bit obsessed...they sleep with a mixture of horse shavings and hay - the fluffies prefer the hay, the big girls roost above the shavings...I clean them both out once a week...

Also, with the porridge do I just make that like normal for them?

Luke can never remember the garlic amount and I can never remember how old something I hatched is so we work well together lol

I just use your average saucepan.
full? So like a 3 cups?? LOL!

Luke, TJ,and satay, if y'all are on Facebook try the Eggs Eggs and more Eggs group. They're advertising heaps of different breeds at the moment, including ancona for, I think, sixty and marans for forty :O

Still no chicks yet

only day 22 though. The period when you're trying to decide if 'helping' is a good idea is really rough :-\

Pinky, Do you have to join the group to see what is for sale?

While on the garlic thing :). From the natural keeping thread they were saying that forms of garlic other than raw dont have as much if the good things. Ie cooked powdered etc looses good bits in process. so to just give minced garlic fresh.

Just wondered if maybe it would be better to do that once a week in some mash than add to their water since its being boiled its technically cooking first. thoughts?
