Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Well- bad news all round tonight.

My two pen Barred Rock breeding program has suffered a major set back.
I came home tonight and found my "B" Team rooster lying dead in the yard.

No sign of injury, and no symptoms of illness in the last few days.

Another victim of Chicken Sudden Death syndrome.

(or the appalling weather of the last week)

Oh that sucks Ash, sorry for your loss.
Was he a good rooster that you had bred to your liking?

Ash I am sorry for the loss of your roo.

Some much better news for me to report this morning.. I have just got up and went to check the babies in the bator and 2 of the 3 are back to normal and the third one is at about 80% I would guess. But even better and stranger news. 2 more of the remaining eggs have hatched. I could not believe that when I looked in there this morning. I had been doing everything not good for egg hatching yesterday. I must have opened the incubator 10 times in the afternoon when I was checking on the ones I put back in there. I was sure the eggs where a gonna after the 6 hours with no heat. Guess these 2 little ones really wanted to be here. Will update with pics later once these 2 new ones have dried out.

Good idea- I keep 3 large fruit juice bottles in the brooder - gives them an extra hour or two of life hopefully.

Yes lesson learnt on that one now Ash. We have never lost power for more than an hour at a time in the 6 and a bit years we have lived here up until the other night. Even during the 2011 floods we only lost power once for an hour.
