The breeder said the black one may be a blue :) I'm very happy either way, as long as it's a girl :)

Oh chook, so sorry about your dad. That's such a scary thing to happen.

if you can't tell for a couple
Years, does that mean they don't lay for that long?
Yep. They can lay after 14 months or so, but only if they were hatched early (like November) and their first season is known to be scratchy at best. They are a long term investment, lol. That said, they sure are pretty, even at this young age.

And CONGRATULATIONS!! Such a lovely looking chick and I look forward to seeing it's brothers and sisters

Gosh, it's super windy outside here, it's worrying me.... My turkeys might get blown away (they are only ones free-ranging today)...

Cool! I didn't know you had blues in there too! You should be able to tell when SHE has fluffed out! I am hoping one of my croad eggs in the incubator will be a blue (almost Marans...a few generations off yet) I'm not sure if the blue or black croad is laying yet... Keep on posting those baby pics!

The nerve of these foxes here... carrying on right outside my bedroom window!...
Just did my first candling of all the eggs in my incubator and amazingly I have 19 of the 23 posted eggs with positive development! And only a few of those with uneven air cells! I am quite amazed because of the way they were packaged when last season I only had two hatch out of the last 4 dozen I had posted that were exceptionally packed. It really is the luck of the draw! Both Croad eggs are working and I can't really see through my olive eggs even with the high powered candling torch for my Marans eggs...
I'm off to the Langshan show tomorrow morning so I will hopefully line up a roo for my Croad girls
