Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Opened up the remaining marans and sadly, they had all quit. One was upside down and only recently quit and the others seemed to have quit days ago.
It's hard seeing them get so close but I'm happy with the hatch rate. Only 5/12 but that's the best I've had from posted eggs.

I'll be setting minorca Eggs later this week and tomorrow I pick up six chicks and four older birds (most of which I'll sell, just couldn't pass up the deal) so plenty of babies around to make up for the lost ones.

Bummer Pinky but 5 is still good. How many of each colour did you end up with?

Hi everyone, I'm having a problem and I'm not sure if it something I've done, but my isa brown pullet started laying at the start of June, she was laying an egg everyday. But two weeks ago she stopped, not on egg, I know it's not hidden, my yards not that big. Also I got this tiny brown egg today very thin shell but I think it's from the langshan bantam, her first, it had no yolk and looked like an embryo, is that normal?

She may be moulting or just the shorter day light hours. Little eggs with no yolk a very common in new layers.

Hi Ruby66, She may be moulting.... A first egg can be like this I have read somewhere, mine usually just start out little....

Kspot I have French Wheaten and Black Copper Marans,  Araucana, Croad Langshans, Silver Duckwing Welsummers and various different crosses....

Would love to see some pics of your wellies.

Thanks satay, I didn't think they were old enough to lay, but I've been looking at the calendar and they must be about 17/18 weeks, their little faces just turned red a week ago. Lol I read so much on here, I think I confuse myself. Not sure whether what's in my head is from reading or if I just make it up haha.

Would love to see some pics of your wellies.
They are just coming through their moult still but I will take a few pics tomorrow... They are still a work in progress, but the breeder I bought the original girls from came over for a look the other day and said they are coming along really well and gave me a few pointers for selecting the chicks this year... Happy I'm on the right track with them though,

Ok I went out to lock up the pullets and I found one sitting on a fake egg I am not sure if this is normal for a pullet who hasn't laid yet,,, has anyone else seen this

Satay, three wheaten, one black and one that seems wheaten but with grey ish areas. Yeah, five ain't bad.

K spot, I have Plymouth rocks, 1 Araucana, will be keeping one of the marans chicks and will be picking up the last pieces to my dream team tomorrow :)
