Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I'm about to set the incubators!!! May be.... I got a dozen Marans from Terry Hill's line (bottom dozen in photo) People in the FB marans page say not to set them because they aren't dark enough, now I don't know what to do :/ I might sleep on it... I didn't get my egg from Baby Babe today I was waiting for anyway... worst comes to worst they could be layers I guess... Wish I didn't spend so much money on them now... Plus he 'overlooked' our 2 doz order (I went halves with a friend) and had to be reminded we had ordered and paid for them AGES ago.... :/
Your eggs look great though chook. Someone around here bought eggs from Terry Hill, had a very poor hatch rate, and the resultant chooks laid way lighter than the birds he already had. Shows that it is all in the advertising, hey. One of the dangers of shipped eggs. Look at my pullet that cost $125.

Well these ones were picked up but yes the advertising goes a long way I guess. And the perception that if it is more expensive it must be better quality? Anyway I think I have had my vent now and I will just put them in and see what they produce... I am happy with my girls this season so hopefully their chicks come up nice too. 10 more days and the first lot hatches. but this next lot is from my breeding pens so fertility should be better and I am 100% sure they are all wheatens were as there may be a few black coppers in the first lot I put in. I have them penned up on the other side now so I will set some of those guys too :)

Did you enter them in the Aussie competition?
No I haven't Sandstorm because I don't have any nice pics of them.. I'll get some later this week when I have some days off from work

Man this humidity stuff is harder than I thought!
Just checked it a while ago and it had shot up to 51%.

Also what does the little ventilation control leaver on the top of the bator do?

Don't worry to much about humidity Luke. As long as you set the humidity to 40% or whatever you are using then it will be fine. Some times takes a while to sort itself out. The vent you open by a third when the first quail hatches tile then leave it closed.

O.K, I put them up for $2.00 each ( there doesn't seem to be a lot of competition with quails around here ).
Now, My parents don't seem to think it's o.k to sell day olds. But I can sell quail chicks under 1 week old can't I?

Yes I have bought them as day olds myself before. Just tell people who are going to buy them at that age that they need a heat lamp if they don't know.

Bummer chook. I would set them anyways. You could always on sell them to someone who is happy to have marans that just don't lay quite as dark.
