. Yay first lemon

Yah Sam.. I remember being so excited earlier this year when I got my first lemon. Now I am hanging out for finger lime to set fruit.

Oh I love kids and joeys too... (and a good lemon tree :) ) Here is some of my new babies, I had 4 of my olive egger strain hatch so fingers crossed for ALL girls. The power outs definitely had an effect on all of the breeds in this round, there were a lot that had stopped developing at about the same time :( Picking up some baby frizzles this arvo so more photos to come... The Black Coppers look pretty good Pinky, I think they may have used something different to my strain to create them, their shape looks a bit different to mine, it's a bit hard without seeing them in the flesh/feather though :)
Beautiful Chook. Sorry your power outages effected your hatch :( can't wait to see the pictures of your new frizzles :)

Thanks Satay... now I'm worried about this next lot too. But now these little guys have finished hatching I can get the eggs out of the crap bator, candle them and put them in the rcom and then set my new rcom with a fresh lot of eggs... New generator is next on my list!

Going to pick up my roo shortly :D Night time is the best time to introduce them? When they're sleeping?

I've started building my new chicken coop, Which they will be in majority of the time except for a few hours of an afternoon due to predators, I stupidly cut myself on the roofing sheets so I'm now asking hubby for help instead of trying to do it myself. Sucks cause I have better ideas than he does lol

The first turkey egg laid by my hen:

And here is what I've spent my day doing! This is a pen for 45 four week old quails. I'll keep them here until they start laying (about 2 weeks, though I've had quail start laying at 5 1/2 weeks) and then sort them into what I'm keeping and what I'm selling (I'm keeping the biggest and about half the deep dark brown).

Here is my favourite quail of the lot, she has markings (white around the mouth and patches above the eyes) like that of The Joker off Batman.

... I have another 40 or so 1 week olds... I need to slow down on the quail breeding... I feed them the lauke mills Gamebird Starter ($27 a 20kg bag) and the amount of quails I have mean they go through it in about a week.
