Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Cheers CB and CG :D

To hatch on Thursday I have:
Turkey eggs
Buff Sussex chickens
Minorca
And Speckled Sussex. I really look forward to have my first hatch for the season (of chicken eggs and I'm hatching Turkey eggs for the first time ever).

I have the Australorp going into lockdown next week.

Love turkey babies they are so awkward but cute at the same time. Colourful was it you hatching emu eggs? How are they going?

Going really well, Chook. I got 4 girls/5 boys, most of the boys look like they're blues. Got another 33 eggs in the incubator - 5 days to go. Am I just grumpy, or is it really annoying when people advertise these birds/eggs of great type and quality, and can't even spell the name correctly. Are you still hatching all yours, or are you ready to sell some?

Yay, good luck with you next hatch :) I know what you mean I saw a couple today and one add in particular for 'FRENCH MARAN WHEATONS' eggs for $100 a doz plus postage. The thing is if they don't even know how to spell it correctly how can they claim that they know they are quality and to standard when they haven't bothered to learn the name of the breed... I had a little giggle though.... Yes still hatching, The first few hatches from mine were hindered by the power outs. These ones in the bators are due in 8 days are all looking good, I'm going to candle them tonight again then leave them to do their thing... fingers crossed I've got the temp/humidity ok in the crappy incubator though..

A few days ago I was watching my golden pheasants and thought that Inigo was acting very strange just standing in the corner behind a plant... But when I went closer to have a better look he jumped up and continued to prance around the aviary as he usually does.. I walked past a little later and there he was in the corner just sitting there... I thought may be he is just a little strange... .But today and yesterday Velvet has been doing the same thing but not moving away when I come and have a look so I'm thinking perhaps he has chosen a place for her to lay her eggs?? It would be so cool if that is what it is :)

I have never used it i use ashes from the fire realise not all people thave that available though.

I had ashes all winter but they are gone and had only read recently that you can use them for the chooks

I wish I had read up earlier about that! It's too warm now for a fire. At least I know for next winter :)

It always amuses me to see people trying to spell Wyandotte .
Just a word of warning about DE , the shape of the particles may be harmful ,( if ingested)
To you and your chooks.

I'd read that it's harmful for us but thought it was safe for the chooks.. I read about it on this forum which is what prompted me to look to buy it. If it's harmful for the chooks though, I don't want to get it

I have to have some!!!!! Can I please see some pictures?? That is amazing.
Great quails as well!

Don't suppose anyone has bought an automatic door have they?

Im up at 7 but our coop isn't huge so by then the chooks are dying to get out. This morning I had a big fat faverolle hanging off the wire half of my door like a giant budgie and the silkie jumped off the roost about 30 seconds too early and hit the door instead of where the open hole would have been when I got the door open.

Starting to wonder if an automatic door opener might be an option?
My hens would peck me to death if I let them out at 7.
They are craving to get out at 6:15 when I let them out.

I saw a plan on youtube to make one with an electric car antenna. I had one and have been using it in a project as an auto door popper for my rooster box.

There are quite a few vid about with more detail. Can get one new from any auto shop, or second hand at a wreckers...or you may know someone with a bomb laying about. Also seen them as a aide slide type.

I used to use it but as I learnt more about it I stopped. If I need to wear a mask to use it due to concerns of lung damage it can't be good for the chooks to roll in. I know many swear by the stuff but I have moved away from using DE

Just keep reading. There are so many opinions on it and a lot of misinformation as well such as using for worms. In the end I couldn't find enough to convince me to try it myself but I'd suggest you just keep reading and then you will be able to make your mind up if you want to. I just went with ash :)
