Thanks free range. You have no idea how hard it was for me to choose , just 2 x pics for the calendar comp. Ask your hubby where he got the Barney roo. The young couple that my husband and daughter are staying with outside Perth, are also looking for a nice roo for their Barney hens.

Josh said that he thinks he picked up the very last cockeral from them

but... if this incubation goes well, my next lot in the incubator will likely be imported Barnevelder eggs if I can't find any local and absolutely no doubt I will have too many cockerals left afterwards, needing homes.
If your friend/friends haven't found a nice Barnie roo, I will of course happily share my luck with them

No charge of course, if they are within driving distance of our monthly country to city trip or happy to meet us somewhere that is

Tell your friends to keep an eye out on Gumtree, because there's likely to be SOMETHING come up this season if they're patient

I was not, so demanded hubby immediately ring for the Barnie cockeral I saw on Gumtree and that is how we got our Charlie Barnie (he finally has a name)
I hope your friends do find a barnie soon, they seem to be hard to find here atm, I'm finding. Even Katt hasn't advertised any Barnies lately and I believe that amazing woman can get just about anything!

Wow you guys are all really serious breeders. And here I am with my 9 chickens. 2 AL, 2 Sussex, 2 RIR, 2 Ancona and an araucana. No roo as the local laws forbid having one. Got my very first egg the other day hoping for an encore today. Do any of you guys show your birds. I used to live on 10 acres at mornington and loved it but am now in Townsville. I enjoy having the girls (demo squad) wandering round the back yard and I think the dogs like watching their antics just as much plus the dogs are good for chasing out the goannas.

Not all of us on this thread breed but a lot of us do. I have never shown anything cause I am far to lazy for all the work that goes into show chickens lol. Seriously though it does take a lot of time and effort to show them and I have friends that do and do quite well.

Hi sandee. Love to hear how many you successfully hatch. I sooo wish I could have a roo. Out of my first batch of chicks I got 4 Roos. A gorgeously handsome lavender Sussex, a very proud RIR and 2 Ancona boys. Sadly I had to take them back to the breeder to re-sell. But the girls are fab. As I novice I'm surprised at just how large the AL's are. They are free ranging most of the time so must have really big muscles or something. My RIR hens have the sweetest natures. My araucana whom I call Buzzard as that's exactly what it looks like. Not totally sure yet on the younger chicks if any are boys but they are looking like they're all girls. Fingers crossed. Don't forget to let me know how you go. Going to be a scorcher of a summer up here. Might be a big cyclone season. Does anyone know what I should do for my girls in a cyclone? Besides moving them into the garage - is that the best thing to do?
