Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi Sydney!

I do use a Hovabator, but it's a base model 1632, real simple wafer thermostat and no turner. I modified it by putting a computer fan in it powered by a old phone charger.

I made my own incubator which I use for the first 18 days, then move them to the Hovabator and use that as a 'poor mans' hatcher.

Looking at that link though, it is more costly, but digital and also has a turner tray which would make life pretty easy for incubating. I did by my controller for my DIY direct from that seller, they have a page you can buy straight from (not eBay)

I have bought direct from them and they were great to deal with, even being in the US. Just make sure you let them know you want a compatible 240V unit as they use 110V.

Welcome Bethany :) On the meat issue. Mine do get cooked left over meat sometimes from bbq's. Never hurt them so far.
Sad news for me. Went out yesterday morning and it was slightly raining as i left. Was gone quite a while when i got back both my pekins were dead. I am not sure what got them but i am guessing a fox as both the dogs were a sleep in our covered area. I found the girls torn apart down the back. Rip girls.

so sorry, satay. :hugs

Anyone catch gardening Australia? Flicking channels and a bit about a guy with chooks caught my eye.

He had an old olive oil tin can with holes poked in it hanging on a string. He put meat scraps in it and as the maggots got in it they would drop out the holes in the tin as a treat for the chooks to pick up from the ground.

Not sure I could go that far for the chookies though lol

Sorry to hear that Satay. Silly dogs were resting on the job. Do you have many foxes around your area? Can they be trapped? Feral animals are really a big problem in Australia and devastating on our natural environment and animals, as well as harming our livestock and pets. I think more money should be pumped into finding better ways to manage feral populations of animals. I don't think we will ever get rid of all of them though. Look at those cane toads, they are heading down south here. I know you Queenslanders like to share.

Unfortunately they are really bad out here at the moment., My fault I should not have let them out before I went out but I thought they would stay up near the house. Lesson learnt. I am looking into getting some eggs to hatch for some pekins. This time I will be far more careful.
