Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Just a question, at what age do chickens (hens) start getting their "voices"
I have 6 chickens and 1 got her voice about 2 weeks ago, the rest just sound like baby chicks still.. Also she is the only one that has turned red around the face... They are 9 weeks old!

Thanks for the reply Fancychooklady

Yeh not a fan of pestine, worked in a pet store for a long time and never had great feedback! What exactly is coopex???

Coopex is an insecticide . It comes in a sachet in powder form. I make it up in a pump pack and spray the perches and nest boxes , getting in to every nook and cranny.
Are you sure your noisy hen isn't a roo? One of my 8 week old light sussex has been trying to crow.

Nah she is a she... I hope :|
It's deffinently not trying to crow, it's kind of like an old man voice lol.. They were all probe sexed as day olds...

And I should try that powder, I clean their poo twice a day rake and hose out.. This is only their first week in the coop.. They were inside...

I have heard of people using ivermectin and I'm going to research it myself. Anything would have to be better than pestine. After using that stuff I was coughing and my lips were numb. I can only imagine how the birds feel.

. You need to clean the coop out as well . I use coopex, you get it from the hardware, in the garden section.

Well that could have ended badly had it been a hotter day. When locking the chooks in the run this morning I asked my son to lock the nest box. I meant the outside flap as we have a broodie in there and if a dog came round didn't want it able to push the flap up.

He thought I meant the door inside and so poor Carl spent all day locked in the nest box with no water and the others spent the day locked out of the nest box. Thank goodness we didn't have the high 30's temperatures we've been getting today.

I'm surprised though that the others just laid no eggs. I would have expected to find some on the coop floor?

Lucky! They will probably go out on strike now.
