Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Yes Luke - the blue/green gene is dominant, so providing your Ar hens are pure (i.e. they have 2 copies of the gene),
all the next generation will lay greenish eggs.
Lavender is recessive, so you will only get Lav offspring if they get 2 copies of the Lav gene.
(unlikely the RIR will have a copy of that gene)

I'd love some coloured egg layers! We get brown and white eggs at the moment, but it would be nice to have green/blue!

Well Araucana's are the hens for you then, or the cheaper alterbative EE's (Easter Eggers) these are just "mutts" crosses from Araucana's, but make sure you dont get sold EE's at the higher Araucana prices which is what some sneaky people do to novice Araucana owners.
You could also try some lines of Welsummers and Barnevelders which lay really dark eggs or Marans which lay lovely chocolate colored eggs.

I just found an ad for lavender araucanas half an hour away from me! They are free and unsexed, so I wonder whether she actually thinks they are roosters! Free makes me a bit suss! Any tips on sexing araucanas? They are 11ish weeks. She says on the ad that they are purebreed, but even if they aren't, if they are free, female, and lay coloured eggs I will be happy!

Oh wow lucky you, yeah even if they are not PB no loss. Ask for some pictures and put them up on here and i can help a little bit(bit of a novice on Araucanas but do know the dif between PB and EE's). You can also make a new thread and there are plenty of people on BYC that know there stuff on PB Araucana's. Although the American standard is a bit different to the Australian so just tell them the pullets are Australian. Even if you end up with roo's you should be able to make a profit of selling them but only if there PB.
Where are you roughly situated i wouldn't mind getting some.

Western Australia. I did ask for a photo, just waiting for her response. I did start a thread with a few questions on araucanas, sexing, and general questions on what 11 week olds eat etc! Looking on gumtree, there are heaps of purebred roos out there, lots of different breeds, so I wonder if WA has a roo-overload!
