Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi everyone, How are all your chickens doing today??? My chickens are doing great I am selling a few Isa Browns so a bit of money coming in, lost a chick this morning though, was only 2 days old now I have to break a broody after she sat for 4 weeks and only hatched one chick (the one that just died) so a bit of a waste of time.
My hens are moving home soon. The new coop is finished just needs a few touch ups.
The ducks are doing great already getting some nice eggs but wow they are messy with their water.

Hey Luke sorry your chick passed. I think we are the only part of Aus not experiencing a heat wave right now though we are still getting temps in the high 30's. Ducks sure are messy but so worth the mess for the great eggs,

Yeah I know every one's having a very hot time and on the news it says "Australia set for heat wave" but we haven't had any extra heat here. I just almost lost one of my ducks today

, long story but got so scared, luckily they aren't to good on their feet.lol. How are your fowls???

We originally had three day old chicks from my daughters school, one for each of the kids, my daughters one Rosy turned out to be a Roo and we changed his name to Robert, he was a really great guy, very friendly towards the children and a little protective of his two hens - except we live in suburbia in Brisbane and it is not allowed..... once he started crowing we knew he had to go, go funny hand written notes left in the mailbox etc..... We used to bring him inside every night so that his early morning crowing wasnt too bad but still the neighbours were a pain in the butt.....  A couple were fine with it and liked to hear him crow.  Then about a month ago we got a visit from the council, Robert had gone over two months ago - told the council officer he was long gone and he apologised and said he was just doing his job but they got a call about a noise rooster from back in august and they had only just gotten around to following it through, he wouldnt tell me who the neighbour was who complained but we have a fair idea.  Another reason he also started chasing one of my daughters friends and then my daughter refused to go and play outside, when I brought the subject up here on this site was told that kids and roos are a no no and to get rid of him straight away before he causes damage.

Anyway thats my story...

Sorry to hear your little Roo didn't work out. We are in the same predicament at the moment but so far no neighbors have complained. Thought I might try totally closing in their house to make a more soundproof box but its also going to block any air movement so on the fence still. Our council has no rule about not being able to keep roosters , just says not recommended to avoid neighborhood disputes
He has also fluffed his feathers and lunge pecked a couple toes so watching him carefully.
Living in hope he can coexist peacefully as the kids school has a pet rooster and so far no probs. wondering if its because it gets picked up so much and if we should be doing the same.
