Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

The three pen breeding project progresses in the cooler weather. 27 degrees today - perfect for mixing concrete!
Nice work Ash. finally got a tiny shower of rain overnight. Enough to settle the dust at least. Be the first of any rain we have had since early November. Now if we could get some more decent rain to fill the tanks would be so much better but I am not holding my breath on that one, Neighbours dog had a lucky escape on Saturday afternoon. She was bitten by a brown snake. They have 3 little dogs that hunt out snakes all the time. We found the snake half chewed outside the house(but still moving) after stumpy let out a yelp fell to the ground and could not get up. Rang the vet and he said $900 to try to save her. Well being they are elderly and don't have $900 they decided to wait 30 mins and see how she was. Well within 20 mins she was back up running around like nothing had happened to her. The vet seems to think the snake hit her but did not inject venom. She is one lucky pup. For people that live up this way. If your dog is bitten by a brown snake average cost is $900. If it is bitten by a king brown which is in the black snake genus it is average $1300 for antivenin and they can't tell which snake it is that has bitten them unless you can take the snake in with you..

Me actually :)
I'll be coming from Israel to Melbourne in March & doing some traveling in the next few months. If there's anywhere I'd like to live, it's Oz & my boyfriend is about to get sponsored for citizenship after 6 years there, so maybe things will work out for us :))
It's such a pity that the government is so crazy about importing animals though. I have to give up all my birds & reptiles & even my dog is a nightmare to bring with. My horse is something I'm really stuck over as its requires payment of my first born child!!

Yeah we do have strong quarantine but we don't have many of the diseases that you find in other parts of the world. You should be pretty safe in Melbourne. Most of the deadly snakes are found much further north.

I like snakes & the bush. I grew up in Africa. We are stuck in the city for a few years because my partner is a computer geek but one day, we'll go farm somewhere & he can do his stuff online.

Yeah I don't mind them either. We have some as pets but not deadly ones. When you grow up in qld and now as I do live rural you learn very fast to have a healthy respect for snakes.

Lol I grew up in coastal bush in NSW. And we have king brown and browns , blacks, red bellies and my favourite pythons. I remember the postman yelling at us I was 9. I had a baby red bellie and took it home to show dad. I realise now he was tried to protect us but when dad saw the snake he says cool find kido let let him go now lol the snake would have only a few days old
