Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

:hugs I am so sorry and sad to hear this Satay.
Your poor male budgie as well. Some birds have such a tight connection with their partners.
R.I.P Pearly.

What now with the eggs? and Pearly's chick?

Unfortunately her eggs will be no good now. The other girl in the aviary is not broody so no hope of her hatching them. Pearly's first baby has been out of the nest box since April and is living in Brissy with my little nephews.

Welcome tj.

Seems my streak of bad luck is set to continue. We had to go out yesterday and as usual I let the wellies out to free range before we left. 4 ish hours later we get back and I can't find the wellies anywhere. As I am walking around calling them I find my five originals hiding in some bushes. I then find one of the new girls(with injuries to her back) but I can't find the rest. Eventually I find a heap of feathers down towards the neighbours fence line. I did eventually find 2 of the missing 3 girls. All three I found have injuries but one is still missing. I am thinking we have had a visit from the neighbours dog again. I am guessing my dogs have woken up in the middle of it thus why 3 have made it with only minor injuries. I spent a couple of hours searching the whole yard for the missing girl but no luck. I have even been out this morning with a torch. My wellies will no longer be able to free range in the front part of the property. I have moved them down the back with the others. Guess this week is just not my week. Bring on next week I say.

Well had an interesting trip to the vet this afternoon.  I took the faverolle with the longer bottom beak to have it trimmed (yeah I know Im a wimp lol)  It did bleed a fair bit so Im glad I didnt do it myself in the end.

However...........He said she was also really skinny which I hadnt realised.  I dont really know how to tell if they are fat or not but he said you could feel her breastbone really easily.  I was more worried she wasnt getting enough water, seems like the food wasnt getting down either.

She also had mites - ugh!   I thought we were rid of those.  So this time instead of putting the ivermectin on topically Ive given it to them orally.   I thought that was going to be a total pain till I had the bright idea to make balls of their warm mash and drop the drops onto the top.  The only problem then was making sure each ate its own all by themselves with no help from any one else :)  worked a charm though.  That also means Ive now wormed them too in case that was contributing to her weight loss too.

Any tips for getting her back up to where she should be more quickly?  She seems to be eating okay with the cut beak now and drinking better but Ill have a better idea tomorrow.  If she stays dry I guess that means she isnt leaking water when she tries to drink any more so the trimming was a success.

Hope your girl Is feeling better soon appps.

Forgot to add on the wellies. I am so annoyed at myself as I had actually forgot to let them out and made hubby drive back down the drive way to let them out before we left. Bugger I should have left them in the cage.

Well at least she didn't leave new born chicks, other wise you would have to rear them your self which I am guessing would be hard.
Glad your nephews are having fun with Pearly's baby. What is her name?

Hope you find her!!! Look in trees as well, when a cat attacked my flock I found a few chickens up trees just sitting there.

Satay I am so sorry, I missed your post about the wellies. What an awful week its been.

Is there any chance of getting an evidence feather trail photo leading back to their property?

Needed an excuse to take a break from cleaning and de-lousing the chook pen so had a bit of a photo shoot with the girls.

What do you get when you plant bird seed?

Carl has decided that the plant pot is the best spot to sit and nest. lol

Winry was all worn out after her big day getting the beak trimmed yesterday so she was snoozing

Colonel - Im actually a little concerned about her as well. Unlike Tuppence below when she stands you can see the breast bone on her front. I never thought anything of it till the vet mentioned Winry being thin yesterday because he could feel her breastbone.
