Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Here is one of my blue breeders. I am having trouble uploading pics at the moment so you will have to be satisfied with these. I will have a go some other time at more pics.

This is another breeder of mine.

This is an exhibition black pullet.

Here are my utility birds. They look quite different but they are pure.

Very nice. You have a great flock there CB!
I am surprised at how different they actually look, I was thinking maybe the Show birds will have better feathering and nicer combs or something but they shape of them and just the look is quite different.
To me your Exhibition flock have a more rounded carriage, they look like an Orpington almost but I'm no expert.lol that's just what I see.
Your utility look more like the "classic" Lorp but still a bit different.
The blue's remind me a bit of my Aussie Langshans in the face actually.

Great flock, very pretty. I hope I haven't offended in any way by saying they look like Orps etc

.

Oh you have separate strains, that is good.
So do only have black utility or do you have blue's in the utility strain as well?
Yes I would like to see some photo's, just out of curiosity if it's not to much trouble.
There is actually no such thing as utility blues. You can cross utility blacks with an exhibition blue for 4 or so generations and then you would have utility blues but they were never originally created that way as the blacks were.
Oh, well you learn something everyday!!

Thats disgusting. I hate buying chicken now, makes me feel guilty...It ought to be illegal not to have them free range - or any animal for that matter.

I would like to thank you all for suggesting I persist with this porridge. I had some one the weekend (as a cover to give some to the girls because Sean was home). I took it out and they loved it - fourth time lucky! I of course, was so excited I came racing back into the kitchen to tell Sean how right you all were - until then it hadn't crossed his mind I had bought the oats and gone through so much milk for the girls!

I have a friend who lives on the Central Coast who would like some ducks - can anyone recommend which type? He is in suburbia but on a big block. He doesn't like Muscovys' which I think is a shame as I used to have some and they were lovely pets...

And my last question is... I have these three silkies, Afro, Pepper and Soda. Pepper and Soda have started not sleeping in their kennel that until about a week or so ago they all shared happily. I have cleaned, I have sprayed, I have done everything I can think of (including going out late at night and shoving them back in) but they won't sleep in there any more. Afro does. The kennel is one of those lidded plastic ones for smallish dogs and lives in side an aviary which I wrap in tarps at night (sounds very attractive doesn't it?), now the aviary has quite a deep layer of horse wood shavings and hay to keep the silly girls warm. The kennel has the same bedding. They lay in the kennel all ok...

Also (can you tell I haven't been on here for a little while!) Soda crows even though she is a girl and now seems to crow when things happen on the property that are out of the norm - how cute is THAT?! She is the best, such a good 'helper'...

Most ducks are noisy if they are not Muscovy. I would suggest either welsh harlequins or khaki Campbell's. Both are good natured and lay quite well. am not sure about your sleeping problems. I had brahma's that slept in the house for agers then one day decided they were sleeping up a gumtree in their run. I could never convince them to sleep else where after that. Soda sounds like a real cutie.

I so feel for poor chicken locked in barns all day with very little room to move. I think they do it for the money they would get more per dozen for free to roam eggs than they would for cage free I would think. We sell a lot of eggs to the people that work in and around where hubby works in the city. So many people want free range eggs. Most love them and will complain if they can't get their farm eggs as they call them every week. All except for hubbys bosses wife who loves the eggs but complained once when I used to have farm fresh on my label as she said 6 acres is not a farm and you don't have cows and pigs....Go figure the woman has never been out here and lives on 400sm with 0 outside yard. So now just to keep her happy I have only eggs from free range hens on my labels.
