Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Wow, chook, your wellies are very pretty!  I love the contrast of the silver on the brown.

Combating upper respiratory in my Lorp at the moment -sigh- Had to separate and quarantine in the dark last night.  At least it made the bugger easier to catch.

Hope your lorp is better soon.

Wow, you guys have been active! Was gone for a day and so much to catch up on!

I agree that it's disgusting how people treat animals as disposable. My aunt (not sure if I have the full story) killed her chickens because she Didn't want them in the back yard for her birthday party. They were speckled Sussex too, I'm sure someone would've gladly taken them. Like me!

But on the upside, there are some wonderful people that try to balance it out like that person saving the battery hens and Satay saving the two orphans

And isn't it wonderful what our partners do for us? Especially wonderful when they're not animal people themselves, just do it to make us happy :-D
Yesterday, my partner drove me about five hundred kilometers sound trip to pick up some birds. It was a very big day :hmm

I finally got the "rare-ish" birds I mentioned last week :-D I got a trio of two week old Yokohama, a quad of very very young Sumatra and a quad of Houdan!!! So excited about the houdan :-D only wanted one but they were so cheap I had to buy four... you guys get it right?

I can't keep them all on my little house block so I think the plan is to keep the Sumatra at my partner's parents', probably sell the Yoko (hopefully for a small profit) and I must find somewhere to keep my houdans! I'm not letting them go lol.
Anyway, pictures

Wow, they are great Pinky!!!
How come you bought the yoko if your just going to sell them? or are you going to raise them up first?

Love your Houdans and can't wait to see your Sumatra when they are all grown up, Do you know their sex???

FAVS!!! I love favs, go for it. If you don't have enough already. To me they are really just the perfect breed....and yet I don't even have one.lol.
They are a great Dual breed, lots of eggs and great meat and they also look great!!! So they are egg, meat and ornamental all wrapped into one. I love their fuzzy beards.lol.
The only con I can think about them is they wouldn't be the best breed for a hot climate, with all that face and leg feathering they are more of a cool climate breed.
But personally I say YES, take the opportunity

Haha I love your enthusiasm.

I only have the one Fav at the moment. The lady I got her off said she'd loan/give/sell (I don't know which) a roo to start out with. Thing is though, I have NO experience breeding/raising chicks so it would be a completely new experience for me.
I guess I could start out selling fertile eggs maybe?

I'd have to also construct another brooder pen as well if I got serious about it. All of this would also hinge on whether my husband would let me too! He's not an animal person at all like me.

Yes I was told by a sf person they suffer in the heat. She lost a couple in that heatwave last year.

On a positive the guy I got mine from said he never has trouble selling them , even the roosters.

Oh and Luke you forgot nice and placid :)
