Well it kinda answered my question if they were going to lay in the new nesting boxes, they love them! And I got to identify at least 5 new pullets to their individual egg so that was great. It was quite hilarious! I will definitely be making more of them and it is so nice to have them coming out in the collection part so nice and clean! Here is an awesome egg I collected from the cross breeds pen, I love it :)
Luke do you mean has any one had problems with their babies and cocci because starter food has medication added to the crumble so they don't get it. Just keep their brooder nice and clean :) I haven't had a problem, touch wood!

Lovely egg chook glad they have taken to the new boxes well. I finally can see a difference in my marans FW. 5 girls and 4 boys. Still have no clue on the black and blue one so I will try to get a picture of them this week.

I'm after ideas for nesting boxes chook (or anyone else) couldn't share a photo of your design could you?

I've got one very large one they could quite easily share but after all the commotion today think ill have to build another. The silkie has decided its hers and she doesn't want to share it with the favs even though she isn't broodie and doesn't even seem to need to lay an egg. We have had so much noise and commotion up there this morning that in the end I had to lock her in the broodie pen so she would leave the poor favs to explore the nest in peace. One is just constantly making a noise and trying to get to where ever we are. Thing she's a bit confused and upset with what is suddenly happening as that first egg seems imminent. Honestly though I don't remember all this noise with the older three. We just looked one day and there was an egg. The favs seem to think they need to complain about the whole thing lol

Bit of a sad reminder for us in Qld where our winter has not been that cold this year. Be vigilant for ticks. My neighbours a few doors up lost there lovely red cattle dog last night to a tick. She started to show signs of not being well on Friday night and the rushed her to the vets first up Saturday morning where a tick was discovered. They gave her antivenom and she seemed to be rallying yesterday afternoon. She fought hard but lost her battle late last night. R.I.P STUMPY my Zeus will miss your sneaky visits down through the paddock to play with him when Patty wasn't looking.

You can have 20 nest boxes Appps, and they will still all want to lay in the one box!

I agree with ash on the bator only difference is I do 65% humidity for the last 3 days but either would work fine I am sure.
I just used medicated starter from hatch day and never had a problem with cocci. Mine are out on the grass at a week old during the day and out full time at 3 weeks.

I did the first couple of hatches with the recommended 65%, but found I have had better results since with it set to 60 %.

Lol Ash. Maybe I should save myself the trouble then sigh. Or maybe I should just build something for the **** silkie as she seems to be the only trouble maker.

Oh to be in warm land! My babies only start having outings at around 3 weeks and are still in the brooder to at least 6 weeks (until summer comes!) Speaking of which I need to get a new brooder together and I may as well do it while I have some sunshine!

!

Is all of the chick feed medicated or will I have to ask for it at my store?

Here is the set up everyone and the first hatch will be underway in about 1 hr ( just letting the bator settle out ).

I will be hatching 13 quail eggs. ( to test fertility and the bator ).

I'd ask Luke. My feed store didn't seem to have anything actually medicated they just kept saying its got natural stuff in it to prevent. They didn't know what though.
