They're so lovely! I think I'm getting some ew chicks this weekend, a salmon faverolle, an araucana and a silver laced Wyandotte but I would really love a Minorca, I've only seen eggs available so I'll have to wait for someone to go broody. In the mean time I have to convince my rooster that he's not in fact a plant...

I don't actually have room for all the eggs so I posted on the gippsland poultry site looking for an incubator. Found one but a bit disappointed with it. , it will certainly give them a better chance than nothing though. I'm just going to put some of each in the rcom and the extras in the other.

I can't catch up with all the posts lately! Since I lost my job a few weeks ago (redundancy) I have been busier then ever before! Does it make sense?
What was this "cow manure" a while ago about reporting some post for saying what was for sale? I was about to ask to buy some quail eggs from someone - am I not allowed to do this?
My quails are not performing, no eggs to hatch and hardly any to eat. I had two little flocks in two cages. One flock gave me 3-4 eggs a day all winter, but not fertile. The other flock gave me one egg a day. I decided to combine all 11 birds.
This means new cage:



Lots of running and flying, but no blood, and no eggs.

Pinky, maybe more are Andi's but they just weren't written down? I'm not sure on that, but one can live in hope.

I'm going to have an incubator full of eggs! I had 12 turkey eggs arrive today from Kostaszoo Farm (brilliant posting, they were whole and with great air cells ad they also do Mille Fleur D'uccle and more which I'm going to order in future) with chicken eggs coming next week in the following breeds:
- Buff Sussex
- A mix of Pure-bred Araucana, Minorca, LB Plymouth, and bantam Orpingtons
- Wyandottes (mix of colours)
- and a few more plymouths and pekin eggs.

I have also ordered a couple dozen Blue Australorp from David Morley (he show's his breeding birds) and some Chukar Partridge.

I make my own brooders from sheets of wood about 1.5 cm thick, cut and screwed together with holes drilled about the sides and a 1 ft x 1 ft wide hole covered in mouse wire in the lid for ventilation. They usually end up about 2ft by 3ft. I ordered the lights off e-bay. I'm making one for a friend at the moment and am painting it to water proof it and I'll pop up photo's once it's done.

lots of good hiding places.

For mine I give them a light but outside that I make sure they have a high protein feed and lots of shell grit and they lay like troopers. I hatched 50 a few weeks ago and have 40+ hatching at the moment. My youngens (who aren't on extra light) are laying well on this diet. Hopefully yours will start laying well for you soon.
