Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Thanks so much guys! The chicks and i wouldn't know what to do without you! A really nice guy at the local nursery that sells chicks has made me up a bag of feed that has a natural vaccine medicine in it.. As for worming how do i even tell if they have worms? I seriously doubt my chooks do.. My chicks are so overly active at the moment i wish they had an "off" button sometimes! They run around like nutters!

All the soil is new i bought it in bags at bunnings, its a thick dirt like mulch with a layer of a fine timber mulch, they all seem fine and healthy i just wanna make sure i'm doing all i can to keep em that way hahaha their coop is so cool i would live in it!

Thanks again everyone

IamSamSam I know how you feel when your chickens and dogs are at the door lol Mine all try to come inside lol I thought all chicken starter was medicated? Am I wrong in assuming that? I get mine from my aggy vet friend luckily, hmm another thing I'll have to ask him when I see him next :)

. No real symptoms to speak of, so I don't really know what was wrong.

All the others are fine, no sickness, all eating, drinking and laying (except for the broodies).

RIP dear Omelette.

Hi Sydney quail man, I've just started on quails, what do you feed yours. I've been using the game bird starter and onto pellets now they are laying. Do they need coccidia medication as a preventative or is it bad for them. Just wondering why it is excluded from game bird mixes.

Thanks again everyone :yiipchick

Coccocidiosis is probably already in your chicks intestine. It is transmitted by poop, clothing broody hen even on your shoes. It only becomes a problem when there is an overload. Amprolium is a thiamine blocker, not an antibiotic or wormer. Cocci thrives in warm moist environments. Symptoms vary, but usually lethargy and standing with wings down , away from the flock are early signs. I have only experienced one outbreak, and since then am ever vigilant. I lost a few hens quite suddenly and without any real warning, before I cottoned on to what was going on. Don't wait to see blood in the poop, cause it isn't always present.
