Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Coccocidiosis is probably already in your chicks intestine. It is transmitted by poop, clothing broody hen even on your shoes. It only becomes a problem when there is an overload. Amprolium is a thiamine blocker, not an antibiotic or wormer. Cocci thrives in warm moist environments. Symptoms vary, but usually lethargy and standing with wings down , away from the flock are early signs. I have only experienced one outbreak, and since then am ever vigilant. I lost a few hens quite suddenly and without any real warning, before I cottoned on to what was going on. Don't wait to see blood in the poop, cause it isn't always present.

Ok thanks so much for that info its so helpful and ive copied and pasted it to save it! Always a help to me FancyChookLady :)

Bit of sad news here.

I got home from work this afternoon to find my Australorp had died :( .  No real symptoms to speak of, so I don't really know what was wrong.

All the others are fine, no sickness, all eating, drinking and laying (except for the broodies).

RIP dear Omelette.

Oh Kspot so sorry for your loss of Omelette:(
Chook for Quail feed I feed mine the same as Sydney quail man which is laucke mills game bird starter. We feed it from day one on. It's non medicated which is best if you ever plan on eating them or selling them to someone that may.

Thanks Satay! I might keep them on the gamebird starter then and keep the pellets for my pheasants as they hardly eat anything... All these different foods are getting expensive!
