Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

You can become a gold feather member of byc for a certain cost. It gives you more access to things and you can turn off adds etc. I got mine as a thank you for being a 5 year member. Do a search in the main forums for gold feather membership and i am sure it will explain it better.

Thanks Satay - 5 years is impressive. I plan to be going strong in 5 years too.

We got our Barnies as eggs from Katt in Oakford (she has adds on gumtree) Pretty sure she sells chicks too if you don't want to hatch.
Thanks Bens-Hens. That's where we got our 4 Barnies too :)
Have been watching her gumtree ads being posted this season, but no Barnie's advertised yet. I haven't checked this past week mind you, must do that now.

FreeRanging Hen, I see you have instagram

. Is it for your flock???

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

We have predominantly Australorp's and a Barnevelder now, as we're renewing our tired old flock. Sadly we only have one Barnie left of the only 4 I could find in WA when I discovered the breed earlier this year.
I'm on the lookout for more of each, because I've fallen in love with these girls and want to start proper breeding lines with these breeds.
It's time to get serious about my chookies

I just recently gave a few of my old x breed laying hens to a friend, and from the old flock have kept a couple younger x breeds that still lay heaps and a very broody Wyandotte that I just love to death. I don't care if she's not much of an egg producer anymore, because she pays her way as a great mum and is oh so pretty.

I've been reading and re-reading forums and websites, printed out info to take to bed to read and am now dreaming about poultry genetics and fertile eggs each night. That's not even a joke, EVERY night bar one the last few weeks. I've just about dreamt a whole incubation period!

A welcome, too, from Mississippi. So we both keep Australorps (I have ONE) and Barnevelders (have 3 babies), and I raised bantam Wyandottes for several years. We must be chicken related.

Wow. Welcome to all our new friends.

I love. The chooks at the back door photos. Anymore ? Post them!

Satay. Love the quails ! They are so cute little fuzz balls.

Pinky & Kspot. Sorry to hear your news. I losses a lorp last year due to heat stress.

And I am worried as we have 30 degree days and only three weeks into spring

Same here Sam. If this is spring does that mean 45deg days are likely again this summer. I am really hoping not as faverolles don't do heat well apparently and I know someone in Victoria lost some last summer in those extreme days.

It's looking that way appps. We were 38c here yesterday and they are saying probably 40c here today and it's only spring. I am worried about my marans in this heat but I have sprinklers set up ready to go if it gets to hot today.

You wouldn't read about it! I dropped my husband and daughter off at 5 am at the airport. It was 4degrees. I came home and lit the fire. I do feel for you guys though. Top up the water with ice cubes and hope for the best.
