Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Araucanas are quite common around here - the problem is to find good ones that match Australian standards.
They must have crest, bearding and muffing.   Tailless mutations occasionaly turn up in Australia.

So are they just an Easter Egger with an araucana name tag over here compared to a true araucana in America?

Hi guys!

Can my 4 and 6 week old chicks sleep outside? I'm in Sydney it's quite cool the two have a little rabbit hutch but i've been bringing em in at night what age can they sleep outside?

I'm freaking out because my other chickens have the flue and i'm wondering if the cold air will bring bring it on or make it worse?

I would sort out the flu with your other hens first before putting the chicks out with them. I put my babies or at about 6 weeks but I'm in Vic

No, While American Easter eggers sometimes look like our Araucana's they are genetically different. Easter egger is the term given to basically any crossbreed araucana or ameraucana that lays a green egg. Easter eggers do not need to have all three traits of bearding, muffing and crests where a true Araucana does need these three traits.

My understanding (which may be incorrect) was that the breed here throws all combinations naturally, crests, muffs, and beards are required for standard, however, clean faced also appear (same as the tails) These are true to the breed, but not true to standard. I also think the US standard also has to be tufted.

There are also issues with breeding rumpless as breeding two rumpless is usually lethal to the chick and if usually dies in the shell missing two segments of it's back. European (and us) accept tailed birds with a different standard, but finding birds that meet standard is hard. none of mine do!
